I Repairing 1.50 Street Lighting Fund j Virgil Arnold, labor 4.40 Business Tax Fund ; Anderson Co., heso couplings S.0 Willkie in State Wendell Willkie, republican stan dard bearer in tiio 1940 campaign and a candidate for the nomination in thi3 year's Nebraska presidential primary, wiu arrive in Lincoln at 10:00 Saturday morning to make a rive day stay in Nebraska, during which time he will make four major adresses and appear at a number of breakfasts, luncheons and receptions being planned in his honor. The original plan was for Mr. Willkie to s-.pend at least seven days in the state, and when this was re duced to five days the committee in charge had a difficult time in re arranging the schedule a3 urgent requests had some from all of the larger cities in the state for his ap pearance. While it was impossible to increase the evening speaking en gagements, leceptions were planned for mornings, noons and afternoons in as many places as possible. Mr. Willkie's first appearance will be at the luncheon of the Lincoln Women's Republican club at tho Cornhusker hotel in Lincoln Satur day noon. Tr.e announcement of Mr. Willkie's appearance at this meet ing brought a flood of requests for luncheon tickets. About six hundred tickets, tho capacity of the hotel, were sold and hundreds were turn ed away for lack of eating facilities. Funeral of Child JUS. Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at the Caldwell funeral home chapel for Ralph Wev- er, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Wever, Sr. A number of the old friends and neighbors of the family were attending. The services were conducted by llav. T. Porter Bennett, pastor of the First Methodist church, who spoke from Second Samuel, 12-23, "Rut Now He Is Dead, Wherefore Should I Fast, Can I Bring Him Back Again, I Shall Go to Him and He Shall Not Return to Me." Rev. Bennett read a short sketch of the brief lifetime of the depart ed. The etiild was born at Platts mouth on January 24, 1936 and died at the family home on March t, at tne age or eight years and two months. He had been ill all of his life. During the service Mrs. E. H. Wes- cott sang two of the favorite songs Precious Jewels," and "I Think When I Read That Sweet Story of Old." Seek Musical Instruments Graduate from Guard School Robert Walter Martin, Seaman First Class, son of Walter Martin of Flattsmouth, Nebraska, recently graduated from an Armed Guard school and is now awaiting assign ment to a vessel for sea duty. Martin oniisted October 15, 1943, and r?ceived bis preliminary train ing at the Farrugut, Idaho Naval Training station.. Jackson, were visitors at Beatrice and called upon Miss C. Olive Jones, city librarian here for over a half century. Miss Jones has been making her home at the P. E. C. Home for th.? aged at Beatrice for some time and likes the new lo cation very much. The visitors were delighted to find her better than for many months, up and around and showing her usual keen interest in the affairs of the world. Miss Giles was associated here with Miss Jones at the library for some four years and was brarian. much attached to the li- Receives Promotion The many lriends on Plattsmouth of Cecil M. Karr, who is in the arm ed services will be pleased to learn that he has been promoted to the rank of lieutenant while on duty in Ihe European theatre of war. Lieu tenant Karr is a son of Mrs. C. W. Karr cf this city and a brother of Mrs. Fay Spidell. He enlisted in the army two years ago and in his ser vice has been in the Mediterranean area for the past year. He is at this time in service with the armed ser vices in Ttaly. Lieutenant Karr has ma.iy friends here and in his former home in Mills county.
