Canning Fruit on Your Sugar Ration Homemakers who- felt like rook ies last year- putting up fruit on war rations of sugar will swing into fruit canning this, second war summer with the assurance of vet erans. And new hands at home can ning will have an easier time, for they may copy. The methods that worked best in tanning fruit last year will suit 1943 sugar rations, i say home economists of the U. S. Department, of Agriculture! ; The guiding rule, for using the sugar is the sanie as last yead : Al low one paund of sugar to each four quarts of finished fruit. It usually takes 2-4 to one cun of liquid to each quart jar of fruit, to fill in around the solid food-and to cover it well. The home canning "sugar ration allqws about 1-2 tup of sugar to use in each quart, as an average. Here are pointers from the home economists for canning -the berries, cherries and other sifnuuer fruits as they come along, so that the fruits the sugar ration, and the home can iier herself may all keei in step. i Shift ' the sugar to; fit the fruit Sour fruits may demand and get more than the, average. In vthat tase, you will'couat'on giving short iations of sugar W some of your very juicy and sweet fruits. Often you can taste the na'tural.flavor of sweet truit better when kss sugar is used. Put up some fruit without sugar. have high flavor of thtir own, such as maple, sorghum, or molasses. Don't use brown sugar. Don't use saccharine in canning; of you wish to use saccharine to sweeten canned fruit, add it just before serving, or the fruit may take on a bitter taste. 1 1 i y ft H I i U WANT ADS 2 KOtrcE OF STJIT TO " QUIET TITLE In the District Court of the County of Cass, Nebraska 1UR SAIL Clifford II.
