She returned today to Sloan, Iowa to reside with Mr. and Mrs. Ilye Mays and family. Born emeieT -James Mr. and Mrs. Martin Eornemeier of Murdork announce the engage ment and approaching marriage of their daughter. Jean, to William E. James, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. R. James of Elm-wood. The wedding will be an event of early fall. ladies had a very pleasant time and in the morning enjoyed a delightful breakfast that had been arranged for them. To Take Charge of Ball For the second consecutive year the Plattsmouth Junior Woman's club members are to have charge of the ball, which follows the coronation ceremonies during the King Korn and visited with a few of the coi rt house officials. Mr. Callen was a -iv in the interest of the forthcoming examinations, announced recently by the merit system. Applications and details concerning these examin ations may be obtained at the Cass county assistance office or the em ployment office at the court house. August 25 has been set as the dead line for all applications. to remain in Nebraska only a short period. Announce Coming Marriage Mrs. Albert James Cooper, of Santa Monica. The coronation this year promises to be one of the most brilliant events ever held in the history of the Korn Karnival. The queen this year will be chosen from among the many young ladies in the city, while the king is to be a rural product. Guests at Governor's Mansion Miss Dorothy Griswold of Lincoln, has had as her guests at the gover nor's mansion last week Miss Georgiana Mewhirtcr of Yorkville, Illinois and Miss Janet Westover, of Plattsmouth. The governor's daughter entertained for them. The three young ladies were pictured in the Lincoln Sunday Journal, sitting in a group. Raniel-Bressman Nuptials At a ceremony performed in the parsonage of the First Methodist church at 1 p. m. yesterday, Miss Lucille Ramel, daughter of Mr. and mouth he visited at the home of Mr Mrs. D. Eeturns from West Coast Miss Petty Faye Reed has return ed to Plattsmouth after a pleasant two-month visit on the west coast, where she was a guest of Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Robathan at Encino, California. Betty Faye also enjoyed renewing old acquaintances with Helen Zimmerer, daughter of Mr and Mis. Frank Zimmerer, former Plattsmouth residents. Sailor to Return Tomorrow Jerry Halter, United States navy youth, is to leave tomorrow for San Pedro, California, where he will board his ship, U. S. S. San Fran cisco. Jerry and other members of the crew are to leave for Pearl Har bor, Honolulu Sunday. An airplane machinist mate, third clcss, Jerry has been in Nebraska on a short furlough. In Lincoln he was a guest of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Karl Halter; while in Platts- PEEPAMNG FOR CALLS The office of the local board of Cass county is preparing for the forthcoming call for trainees under the selective service act. On Aug ust 2G there will be 14 of the young men sentx from Cass county into the service of their country. On September 5th there will be a call for five of the registrants. The list of those to be called will prob ably be sent out in a short time. BEING ILL STRANGER HERE Sheriff Joe Mrasek was out to Greenwood Tuesday where he was called by The report of a man being found there in serious condition and without means of care. The sheriff cf Plattsmouth, jand Mrs. P. J. Wheeler, the latter son of Mr. and !an aunt of the navy boy. Not only Mrs. John Bressman, Sr. of Eellevue, were married. Rev. James C. Lowson officiating. Donald Bressman, who came from California to be his brother's attendant, arrived a few minutes before the ceremony. Miss Maxine Ruble served as bridesmaid. A dinner party followed at the home of the bride's parents. In ad dition to the bridal party there were present Mr. and M.n. Chester Bress man and family, Mr. and Mrs. John Pressman. Jr., and family, Mr. and Mrs. John Pressman. Sr. and family and the groom's paternal grandpar ents, all of Eellevue: Mr. and Mrs. "Gene" Ruble of Omaha, Mr. and Mrs. Art Gesehe anc on, Maynard Hanes-Hike of LaPlatte. Grace Hanes, daughter of Mr. and -Te bride was graduated from the Mrs. Rusrfel Hanes of Sprmgheld, plattsmouth high school in 1940. Nebr., and Burdc-tte Hike, Cedar. The couple will reside at Bellevue Creek, were married Wednesday, August 6th by Rev. A. J. May. pastor of the Methodist church at Spring field. They will make their home three miles east of Cedar Creek on Harry Meisinger's farm, which Mr. Hike has been operating. Guests at Safarik Home Mr. and Mrs. Will Bezdek and children. Virgil. Verna and Mareella of Lost Springs. Kansas and Mrs. Mary Vinduska of Pilsen, Kansas are now guests of Plattsmouth relatives. They are visitors at the Joseph Safarik farm home. Mrs. Vinduska has been here two weeks. She is the mother of Mrs. Safarik, Mrs. Bez dek and John Vinduska. did he visit with the Wheelers but j had the pleasure of being Mr. and j Mrs. Harry Nielsen's guest . The ' i young man has been in the navyj three years. Sunday Jerry was an honored j guest at a picnic party, tendered him at the Robert Patterson home. A large group of relatives and friends attended. Michigan, have been here for a visit at the home of Mrs. Cath erine Nolting and other of the rel atives, they departing Saturday for their home. Mrs. Eurgett is a cousin of the Nolting and Porn families in this part of Cass county. This was their first visit west and they en joyed very much the visit with the relatives and viewing the rich farm ing country of this part of the west. From Wednesday's Dafly Announce Betrothal Mr. and' Mrs. Elmer Bennett of this city announce the betrothal and forthcoming marriage of their only daughter, Alice Veronica, to Henry Kettelson. son of B. Kettelson and the late Mrs. Kettelson. Miss Ben nett was graduated from the Platts mouth high school in 1939. The wedding is to take place in the very near future. Jim and Mat. brothers, had not seen each other for some time. The James Wooster family expect to return to Missouri this week. Entertains at Slumber Party Miss Alice Jayne Grosshans enter tained a group of girl friends on Saturday evening at the home on South Chicago avenue, the event honoring Mary Louise Walton, of Onawa, Iowa, a house guest. The Here for Short Time Burbank, California residents who were en route to Cedar Eluffs and Weston. Nebraska yesterday stopped in riattsmouth for a short visit with Attorney J. A. Capwell. They were Mr. and Mrs. Roy R. Otredosky, for mer riattsmouth residents, and their visit here was a complete surprise to the local attorney. Mrs. Capwell and her father, however, were out of the city and were unable to enjoy the j visit with the sister and daughter and iher husband.
