Kentner came down from Hutnboldt Saturday aud re mained over Sunday the guests of friends in this city. Aaron Loucks was in St. Joe , Sunday , acting as one of the pall bearers at the funeral of his friend , H. P. Karnes. Mrs. Dr. Wilson made a hur ried trip to Essex , Iowa , this week accompanying her mother to her home at that place. Mrs. Henry Meyers who has been visiting relatives for the past three weeks at Grinnell. Kas. , returned to this city Wed nesday. Among the out of town guests in attendance at the Leap Year dance Wednesday evening was George Hansen of Stella and Joe Windle of Salem. Phil Hermes returned Friday from his California trip , where he had been in the interest of his business , disposing of a car of poultry while there. Matthews , the Price Killer , has some interesting news for our readers on the back page ol this issue. He is offering bar gains in every department. The members of St. Agnes Guild will conduct an exchange at the Morsman drug store Sat urday afternoon , where you can buy your Sunday dinner ready prepared. Prof. Harnack shipped his household goods to Hiawatha the first of the week , and now the professor and his estimable family have become residents o our sister city. \ Basil E. Boyle of the firm of Frolicht , Duncker and Renard , St. Louis , Mo. , visited his mother , Mrs. Yut/.y. over Sun- day. Basil is on his regular trip through the state selling * goods. Errett Oliver left Sunday for Jefferson barracks , St. Louis , , where he was ordered to report pending his removal to Wesl Point , having passed his ex . amination for that place some i time ago , and has already re ceived his appointment as alter- vate. Alex Leo returned the latter part of the week from his holiday visit with relatives in St , Louis. Mrs. Dennis McCarthy went to Omaha the latter part of the week to spend a few days .with relatives. Bob Wright returned to his home in Kansas City Sunday after a week spent with relatives in this citv. Mrs. A. EGantt and son Dr. Ed Hays of Dawson , made a bus iness trip to Omaha , the latter part of the week. Miss Agnes Moran , who spent the holidays in this city left Sun day to again take up her school work in Sheldon. Neb. Charles Humphrey and wife of the Verdon Vedette , spent Sun- lay in this city with Mr. and Mrs. George A. Abbott. A. E. Ovenden , editor of the Pawnee City Chief , was in the city a short time Sunday on his vay home from Auburn. Charles and Morilla O'Harra returned Sunday from Axtell , \as. , after having spent the lolidays with friends there. Misses Nola and Helen McCool who have spent the past week visiting friends in this city return ed to their home in Salem Sunday. Miss Mabel Greenwald return ed to LaMars , Iowa , last Friday : o resume her work as teacher in the public schools at that place. Mrs. Benj Nicholson returned Saturday from Craig , Mo. , where she visited two weeks with her parents Mr. and Mrs G. G. Stumbo. W. D. Easley and wife went to Stella Saturday for a few days visit with W. H. Wheeler and family before returning to Kansas City. Vern Ripley and wife who have been identified with the Joarnal for some time will leave soon for Shenandoah , Iowa , where they expect to reside in the future- Mrs- John Gehling returns this week from her old home in Goshin , Wis. , where she was call ed about three ago by the serious illness of her father , whose death occurred on Christmas day. The Tribune this week receiv ed a very neat and convenient calender from W. R. Crook , vice president of the 1st National Bank of Paonia , Colo. Mr.Crook is a brother of our postmaster G- J. Crook. John Kone , years ago a resi dent of this citv , but now in the restaurant business in Summer- field , Kas. , was in the city a short time Saturdav renewing old acquaintances. John is looking fine , old Father Time having dealt very leniently with himant he says he feels "just as young as he used to be. Dr. Wilson wishes to announce liis office and residence will be over McMillian's drug store on or before February 1 , 1'JOS. Mrs. Munson of Oneida , Kas. , who nas been the guest of her daughter Mrs. Elliott for some time returned home Monday. Mrs. Caffrey and mother Mrs. Watson of Mound City , Mo. , re turned to their home Monday , after a short visit in this city with their sister and daughter Mrs. John Wilson. One of the coming attractions j at the Gehling , Monday January 13th , is Buster Brown , his dog Tige" and his friend "Mary Jane" together with a company of forty , mostly girls. , Charley Bliss , one of our old' Falls City boys , is visiting in I i this city. Charley is now interested i ested in a sheep ranch in western Iowa and is making good , which , will be welcome news to his many friends here- j Editor Stowell was in the city i a short time Monday. Mr. Stowell has been in South Dakota for the past few years , and after a few weeks visit with friends in this vicinity , will go to New York for a few months stay with his parents. The committee having the af fair in charge desire us to state that the premium list for the Fanners' institute to be held February 5 , 6 , 7 and 8. will be ready for distribution next week. About $300 will be offered in prizes , and the session promises to be an interesting one. Rev. C. N. Allison who held meetings at the Christian church of this place in June , passed through the city Saturday on his way to Table Rock where he will conduct evangelistic services through this month , having re signed his pastorate at Mound City , Mo. , owing to the ill health of his family. Prof. Harnack opened his Billiard Parlors to the public this week. It is one of the handsomest parlors to be found in the state and will be con ducted strictly in accordance with law. Reed left Saturday for her home in Bassett. Neb. Al Stumbo and family spent Sunday over in Hamlin guests at the homes of Jeff Prater and Chas. McGuire- Dave Wilson of Mound City , Mo. , spent this week in the city looking after his big brother John , the tailor. Mrs. Will Nettlebeck and fam ily returned Thursday to their home in Shubert after a week's visit with relatives in this city. M. Seff and family and Mr. Jacobs and wife went to Kansas City Sunday to attend services in 'the Jewish synagogue at that place. Miss Elizabeth Jones , an em- ploye in the suit department at VG. . Lyford's , has resumed her 'duties after a week's visit with home fqlks at Reserve. Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Boor of Conotton- Ohio , left Tuesday for their home after a pleasant visit in this city with their cousin Clem Firebaugh and wife. Charley Cornell and wife of Pawnee City arrived in the city Saturday. Charley has accepted a position in Leyda's cigar store jand he and his wife have decided to locate here. I Miss Melva Kerns left last week for St. Joe. She was ac companied by her mother whose eyesight is failing and they 'make ' the trip to consult an i eminent optician. ' George Boone of St. Joe spent from Thursday to Sunday in this city with relatives. Mr. Boone expects to spend the winter either in California or Florida and came up to bid the folks good bye. The season of sale bills is at hand and the Tribune wishes testate state that we are prepared to 1 print sale bills while you wait , and do as good work and at as low figures as you can get any place. 7-tf The only thing that pulled the Tribune through this strenuous week was the fact that Wm. Cade gave the force a bottle of 13-year old wine the fiirst of the week. The only fault we found was that the bottle wasn't big enough. Taft's supporters controlled the Ohio state republican committee in the proportion of two to one and fixed the date of the state convention a n d the primary method o f choosing delegates \\ith perfect ease. Mrs. John Ogle of Dawson is visiting her brother Charley Bruhn in this city. Mrs. Chas. Banks who has been quite sick for the past week , is again able to be about , Mrs. Albert Norris returned Saturday from a week's visit with her daughter at Lincoln. Sidney Lapp returned Saturday from Hiawatha where he has been working with the telephone gang. Mrs. Eliott and mother Mrs. Munson returned Friday from a two weeks visit with relatives at Herndon , Iowa. Josephine Graves left Saturday to again take up her school work at Wayne , Neb. , after a pleasant holiday vacation with friends in this city. The big Pre-Inventory sale is still on at V. G. Misses Mable and Minnie Macotnber returned the latter part of last- week from Coweta. Okla. , after having spent their vacation with their parents of that place. Ed Davis and family have mov ed here from Salem and are now occupying the Mrs. Frank Smith property in the south part of town , Mr. Dayis has accepted a position as lineman with the local telephone company. Miss Frankie Moran , who has been such a faithful employe at the Central office for so long , handed in her resignation Satur day morning , the same to take effect immediately. Miss Moran and her mother leave this even ing for Shelton , Neb. , where they go for the benefit of the former's health. While Frankie will be greatly missed by her associatcSi all sincerely hope the change will prove beneficial. Prof. Searson is Exonerated by Official Body , Treasurer Brien of the State Board of Education at a recent meeting of that body in Lincolm read a report of the sub-coin- mittee appointed to investigate I the charge against Profsssor I Searson. The report reviewed ' .the . testimony in the trial in i court and beiore the board and 'closed ' with the statement that Professor Searson had been un justly accused and recommend ing that he be exonerated. The report was adopted. Don't be pessimistic. Get all the pleasure possible out of the fine weather we are now having , and don't think about the storms you seem so positive are coming.
