Whole No 208 .17 " " Bank Cases Settled The First National bank of Hnmboldt has gotten rid of all its litigation which was imposed upon it by the Saniuelson failure by compromising all the cases against it. The settlement com prehended all cases which have not been tried as well as all cases in which judgement has been rendered. When court meets on the 27th of this month the docket will be cleared tf all bank cases. The Tribune feels like congratu lating all parties interested. Home Teams Win The basket ball games played at the Jcnne opera house Friday evening between the Pawnee City and Falls City high school teams , proved very interesting to the large crowd present , both games being won by our home teams , the girls score being 30 to 3 and the boys 30 to 21. A number of friends accompan ied the visitors to this city , and althoughthey suffered defeat , were loud in their praise of the hospi tality shown them by our young people and the splendid entertain ment given them. Basket ball continues to grow in favor and each game proves more interesting than the former , and we are glad to note that our citizens are encouraging the young people more and more by their support. Dunn and Miss Grace Martin , both of Barada , were married in this city Wednesday ) January 15th , at the Brethren parsonage , Rev. Teeter officiat ing. They were attended by Win. McGowan and Hazel Dunn , a sister of toe groom. Immediately after the cere mony they returned to Barada and an elegant supper was served by the bride's parents , Mr. and Mrs. C. II. Martin , only the im mediate relatives being present. This young couple are well and favorably known , having grown to manhood and womanhood in our midst. The groom is the junior partner of the mercantile establishment of R. J. Dunn & Son. Always affable and courte ous to all , his friends are legion. The bride , the youngest daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. C. II. Martin , is one of liarada's iairest and most popular young ladies. They will go to housekeeping at once at their home in Barada. We extend to these young people ple our sincere congratulations and best wishes for a haopy and i prosperous journey through life. Gospel meetings are in progress' ' at the Christian church. W. of Falls City will have a series of debates at their hall in , this city during the winter. Have Come Back Jim Powell and wife are again residents of this city , Mrs. Powell arriving Sunday , and Jim coming in Monday with their car of household goods. Mr. and Mrs. Powell went to Gordon. Neb. , last spring , intending to locate there permanently and would have done so had not ill health overtaken Mr. Powell , but final ly deciding that good health was the only thing really worth striy- iug for , came back to Falls City , and sav they have come to stay. While all are sorry to hear of Jim's poor health , we are glad to have them here again and know it will not be long ere he is re stored to his old time self. J. S Everts Dies Suddenly. The sad news reached this city Wednesday , through John W. Towle , of the sudden death of his father-in-law , J. S. Everts , which occurred in Omaha that afternoon from apoplexy' . J. S. Everts is well known bv most of our people , having been identified among our foremost business men at different times. Coining here from the east he lo cated on what is now known as the Fisher farm , building "Louie- land , " then the most beautiful farm home in this part of the stats. His wife died some time ago , and for the past few years he had made his home with his daughter in Omaha. Up to the time of going to press we were unable to get any of the real facts concerning his death or the arrangements for the funeral. A New Firm. A new firm has been launched in this city , whose business card reads Falloon & Cain , Collectors. The linn is composed of E. V. Falloon and J. B. Cain , two young men ol our city , who are still in school but will conduct their business out of school hours. Their office is up stairs the second stairway north of the post office , where they will be pleased to receive anyone having collections to make. Both are energetic young men and have started out in a way that is sure to redound to their credit. It is a good business and we wish them every success. Visited Our Library Miss Charlotte Templeton of the State Library Commission , in company with Mrs. Crawiord , librarian of Ilumboldt , spent a short time in this city the first of the week. The library at Ilum boldt is being reorganized , and this | i visit by these ladies was made for the purpose of visiting our library and in company with our librar ian , Miss Spencer , spent several j i ' hours studying the methods used | here and which have given this , institution the reputation of be ing one oi the best conducted in I the state. The ladies returned ! j to their homes much pleased and I I greatly benefitted by what they had seen and learned. ! < ' i WinBoose was called to St. I Joe Wednesday evening by a tel ! egram announcing the sudden ' death of his son , Lewis. ' Society News. | Miss Grace Iloppe was hostess , to the T. B. club Wednesday evening. About thirty guests j were present and all report a most delightful time. Rav Stew art of Hiawatha , and Miss Truel j Johnston of Nebraska City were out of town guests. The Woman's Auxiliary of the Episcopal church met with Mrs. T. L. Ilimmelreich Monday eve ning. Roll call was responded to by quotations from the Psalms. The lesson. Japan , with Rev. Neide as leader , proved both in structive and enjoyable , to the members present. T h e next meeting will be the second Mon day in February , and a most cor dial invitation is extend to all. Mr. A. W. Cross presents Mr. Edmund Carroll in Mr. Walker Whiteside's great comedy success "We Are King" at the Gehling , Saturday. Jan.18th. For a num ber of years Mr. Carroll played leads and characters in Mr. White- side's productions , making such favorable impressions with the public that last season , Mr. Cross decided to present him in this successful comedy , a play that gives him ample scope for his un limited talents. Mr. Carroll will be supported by an exceptionally clever company. Miss Myrtle Ramel was hostess to the following young ladies at a house party at her home in this city the first of the week : Mrs.V. . E. Hunt , Davenport , la. , Mrs. R. B Waller , Dor chester , Neb. , Miss Stella Wheeler. University Place , and Misses Lila and Irene Spurlock , Benlah and Mar } ' Russell , JJula McCool and Orrie French of Salem. The affair was in honor of Mrs. R. B. Waller and Miss Stella Wheeler and was most enjoyable. On Monday evening the above ladies made up a theatre parly that witnessed Buster Brown. Mr. and Mrs. CF. . Cain have issued cards announcing the marriage of their daughter , Sue Lettie , to Dr. Adelbert Otto von Oven , which took place at Bozeman , Mont. , on Thursday , January ) th. We are not pre pared to give any particulars of the important eyent and can only say that the bride was raised in Falls City and was one of our brightest and most popular young ladies , and her many friends here wish her a long life of unalloyed happiness. As to the groom , he is the leading dentist of Bozeman , and must be a gentleman in every sense of the word , otherwise he would not have won this prize. The happy couple are now on a tour through the west and will be at home to their friends at Boze man after February Oth. Notwithstanding the stormy weather Wednesday evening , a large crowd was in attendance at the lea given by the ladies of the Episcopal church at the home of Mrs. Ilimmelreich , about $10 be ing realized. i Mrs Dr. M. " Tired of Life Thomas Malone a man about tO years of ane committed suicide in this city Sunday afternoon , January l2th at about 3:30 : o'clock by shooting himself in the head with a revolver. Deceased was not a resident of thisdty but had formerly made his home on a farm near Dawson , where he was employed as a farm hand , lie made frequent visits here how ever. and at this time had been around town for about two weeks. . Lately he had been staying nights with Georue Minnie ! : , and it was in the yard at the hitter's home that he committed the deed. He was alone at the lime but the shooting was witnessed by sev eral persons on the street. The man was taken to the Na tional hotel and given all the at tention possible , but he died at 7 o'clock without ever regaining consciousness. The cause of the rash act is not known but it is presumably due to despondency , as he had been drnking heavily for some time. A deposit slip forSlOO on the Rule bank w s found on his person. A coroner's inquest was held Monday forenoon , t h e jurors agreeing that deceased had come to his death by a pistol shot in- llicted by hisjown hand with sui cidal intent. The body was retained at the Rcavis & Abbey undertaking rooms until word could be receiv ed from relatives. A brother was located at Beatly , Kan. , and immediately upon hearing of his brother's sad ending , ordered the body sent to him for burial which Monday afternoon. Mrs. John Holt Injured by Fall. As the result of a fall Mrs. J. W. Holt is now suffering from a broken nose and other bruises. Tuesday night as she was en tering the bath room she became suddenly ill and fell over striking on the bath tub with the above results. 'Mr- Holt heard the fall , and upon investigation found his wife in an unconscious condition. She is still under the care of a physician and quite ill. . t * . New Board of Supervisors. The newly elected members of the board of superyisors met on Tuesday evening for the purpose of organization. W. J. McCray nominated John Hinton as per manent chairman , and on motion of Xoellcr the nomination was made by acclamation , and Mr. Hinton was ? made chairman for the ensuing year by the unani mous vote of the board. How IK Ar WM M it. Props. Died. Mrs. Rosalie Godfirnou died at her home in this city Satur day , January 11 , 1'jOH , aged 72 ' , -1 months and -I days. Deceased was born July 7 , 1 1.HI5H , in Ghent , Belgium , where she lived until about U ! years of age , when she came with her ! parents to America. After a few years her parents died , and be ing left on her own resources , acted as interpreter for persons crossing the ocean , making the trip seven times. She enjoyed the distinction of having at one time been maid of honor to the Princess Mural and went with her to the courts of France , England. Belgium and Italy. She was married in Brussels , Belgium , October 2-1 , 18755. To this union two children were born , Mrs. Fernando Keim and Louis Godfirnon , both living in this city. Her husband preced ed her to the grave only a few years ago. In 1870 , she with her husband and daughter came to Falls City and had resided here continuously until her death. Her's was an eventful life , made up as it was of more than the usual experiences of the ordinary person , it was always a great pleasure for her friends to listen to her pleasant remi niscences of the trips across the water , and this , together with her friendly manner , made her a welcome guest In any home among her wide circle of friends. She had been in poor health for about three years , and a great sufferer , but through it all bore her burdens with a true Christian spirit. The funeral was conducted from the Episcopal church Mon day afternoon , Rev. G. L. Neide officiating , using the beautiful burial service of that church , in which failli she died. Inter ment was in the Steele cemetery. All unite in extending sympa thy to the bereaved son and daughter , who have nothing now but the memory of a loving mother , and the hope of that reunion which is promised t $ the faithful in the great beyond ? IIOOSIC' Lewis Andrew Boose , son of Mr. and Mrs. WinBoose of this city , died in St. Joe , Mo. , Wednes day , January 15 , 1'JOS. aged 3' ) years , 3 months and 12 days. Mock Political Convention. A mock political convention was held by the Parliamentary class of the Falls City High School lasl Friday evening. Hlaine Voder called the meet ing to order and at his sugges tion Vergil Falloon was chosen permanent chairman , and Ruth McMillan secretary. The convention at once got down to business , Blaine Voder representing the reform wing of the party , in an eloquent speech nominated the Hon. Edgar Schock , a graduate of Yale College , a distinguished jurist , an able statesman and friend of the common people , for first place on the ticket. Mr. Schock 's eligibility under the constitution was called in ques tion , the opposing faction claiming that he was foreign born. A Ily leaf of an old Bible was produced in evidence to show that Mr. Schock was born in Germany. This was proved a forgery , and acted as a boomerang on the opposition. Mr. Schock had a plurality on the first ballot , and the second ballot gave him a decided majority. Miss Mable Poteet was unani mously chosen for his running mate , and the ticket reads : For President , Mr. Edgar Schock , L.L. D. ; for Vice Pres ident , Miss Mable Poteet. BARADA. Mrs- .
