J. G. Crook was a business vis

He says our neighboring city has
donned its spring apparel and is
looking her very best.
A move is being made on the
part of some of our business men
to make theclosing hour 9 o'clock
instead of 630 ; through the sum
mer months. Farmers arc signi
fying a desire for this change
and a number of the merchants
are anxious to meet the demand.
A woman with a small child
was stranded in this city Thurs
day last. They were found at
the M. P. depot by night watch
Richards who brought her
to the City hotel until aid was
furnished to send her to relatives
at Lincoln.
W. W. Spurlock of Salem is
now recovering from a severe
bite of a large black spider. While
sorting potatoes in the basement
of his store Monday a week , and
feeling a sharp pain in his linger
he investigated finding a large
black spider clinging to his hand.
It was torn away and the injury
immediately dressed by a surgeon.
The little yellow Dandelion
seems determined to capture the
lawns in all parts of the city and
unless a united effort on the part
of all is centered toward its de
struction , it will continue its
spread each year. But little can
be accomplished in the destruc
tion of this pest by a few , as the
seed from your neighbor who
docs not make an effort , is suffi
cient for a whole neighborhood.
Let us make an effort to extermi
nate this nuisance in our city
this season.

Rev. H. B. Smith will begin

Luke's church next Sunday His
family will remain here some
time longer. Until a new rector
is secured , Rev. Smith will con
duct services here every Tuesday
evening and Monday morning.

not seen such an abundance of
fruit blossoms and such a .scarcity
of injurious insects , " said an In
dependence man this morning , in
discussing the fruit prospects in
Jackson county. "You may ex
pect all kinds of fruit this season
to be abundant , cheap , and re
markably free from imperfec

in Richardson County.
Three weeks ago The Tribune
announced that M. J. Byrne "and
wife" of Dawson were in our city.
While it was not our intentions
to lie about our time honored
friend , it appears that we were
at least ten days previous. A
mutual friend from our neighbor

are now cosily at home to theii
numerous friends after spending
some tune in Oklahoma and the
