I. B. Whitaker , of the real es
tate firm of Whitaker Bros. , left
Wednesday for Butler county ,
Mo. , to look after some big land
deals in that section.
A Graham and wife left yester-
terday for Portland and numer
ous points along the coast. They
will return by the way of Cana
da and visit relatives. They ex
pect to be gone about four weeks.

News has reached this city ol
the sudden death of Mr. Hearst
at his home in Waco , Texas. Mr.
Hearst was married in this city
some years ago to Mrs. 13. J.
Iloldbrook.

in town Saturdaj. Mr. Shubert
will be a candidate for county
clerk and makes his announce
ment in this paper. Mr. Shu
bert will come to the convention
with considerable strength.
Prof. Rich , formerly principal
of the Falls City schools died at
f the home of his son Kdson in
Omaha Sunday. Mr. Rich has
, . many friends in Falls City who
will learn of his death with great
regret.
Frank Harrison , the well known
Nebrasha newspaper corrspond-
cut who is now traveling in south
America , has mailed The Trib
une a souvenir postal card from
Zapaca , Guatamala. Mr. Harrison

cost of postage was fifteen cents
as near as we can figure it.
We are in receipt of a Burling
ton folder descriptive of the var
ious irrigations projects of the
United States government , and
the same contains much valuable
information. It is interesting to
note that the North Platte Valley
project covers 200,000 acres ; in
the Platte valley the Shoshonc
project covers an equal area in
the Big Horn basin , the Crow re
servation a half million acres and
the Belle Fourshe prospect a large
territory north of the Black Hills.

Omaha , or from Grant Stewart ,
the local agent in this city.
The glorious Fourth seems to
have been celebrated in proper
style in Barada. Sheriff Hossack
showed up the morning of the
sixth with divers and numerous
cases of beer and casks of whisky
obtained by search warrants
sworn out by residents of the
village. Arthur Nixon was
bound over on a charge of boox.e-
elegy by Judge Wilhite and cases
too numerous to mention were
continued until July 13.
The Mibject of the sermon at
Presbyterian church Sabbath
morning will be "The Creed of
[ Christ. " Evening subject "Some
! thoughts of thoM' who read and
, think. " The sacraments of the
' church will be administered and
new members received at the
morning service. Everybody is
cordially invited.

The W. I. Swain Jesse James
show that is to appear here July
12th , presenting wild western
life in reality comes well recom
mended by the press. It is re
ported that they are giving a
good show. There will be in
addition to the regular show a
thirty minute free thow in front
of the tent from 7 o'clock to 7:30 : ,
consisting of roping , riding ,
music by the original cowboy
band , etc. The management
announces that any wildunbroken
horse or mule will be rode free of
charge , so bring your wild unride-
able horses and see the fun.

The C. W. Parker shows have
no followers , in other words
grafters , fakir.or gamblers. It
is one particular pride of the
management that any lady or
child can go up and down the
"Pikv" accompanied , visit every
hhow and have a good time with
out seeing anything immoral or
being afraid of grafts or insults.
They have in their employ two
special detectives whose whole
duty is to see that the patrons
of the attractions are properly
taken care of. He also carries
numerous gentlemanly ushers
whose sole duty is to supply in
formation and look after the gen
eral wellare of the patrons. The
date in Falls City is July 24 to 30

Railroad Valuation.
The state board has completed
its valuation of railroads. The
increase in the valuation this
year over last amounts to
$6,060,616.25. In as much as the
valuation was largely increased
last year , the present figures are
probably very near the true value
of railroad property in Nebraska.

The Missouri Pacific is offer
ing a special fourth of July rate.
The fare will be one fare plus 50
cents for the round trip. Tickets

the fourth with a return limit on
