Millinery Openings
Tuesday and Wednesday of this week
wore rod ink days on miladys calendar
in McCook being the dates of the mil
linery openings by Miss Anderson and
Miss Ashford
The creations of the milliners art
this season are regarded as boing espec
ially chic and stylish and of fetching
shapes and entrancing colors and the
displays offered by both of these ladies
on the above occasion gave color and
reality to the judgment Pattern hats
of elegance and beauty were in view in
very tantalizing numbers and variety
designed to appease any fancy and ap
peal to the most exacting taste While
every millinery notion had its full ex
pression
Both ladies were pleased with their
opening attendance and more especial
ly with the liberal buying
The ostrich feather window display
by Miss Anderson was of peculiar and
attractive uniqueness and drew many
a favorable observation

Old Settlers Annual Meeting
Tho old settlers of Red Willow county
held their annual picnic at Brookside
Farm Red Willow last Thursday
While the attendance was not up to
that of last year on account of many
boing kept away by pressing farm work
the grovo by the Willow creek on Mrs
Phoebe G Taylors farm was the scene
of a gathering of old timers and others
numerous enough to give all a good
time in the eating of their annual feast
the exchange of reminiscences and che
renewal oi friendships of olden times
and of later days
The registration was completed before
noon when the people sat down to their
annual picnic a spread of good things
in abundance which lacked nothing of
fullest enjoyment the feast being topped
off with John Longneckers annual
donation of watermelons home grown
Following this feature was the sing
ing of America and a character
istic speech by Rav M B Carman of
McCook whose -wit and humor were
fully appreciated He spoke in intro-
duction of some of his early experiences
in this western Nebraska and conclud
ed with a glance at the greatness of this
country of ours
Brief talks were made by J B Me
serve John Longnecker E S Hill J
S Phillips and others after which let
ters from H H Pickens and George
Hunter both new residents of Cali
fornia were read with their greetings
and word concerning the home of their
adoption All were enjoyed
It was unanimously agreed to become
an auxiliary of the Nebraska Historical
society as requested by the state and
parent society which intended having
a representative present but was unable
to do so on account of other engage
ments on that date
Vacancies appearing in the vice-presidents
from Valley Grange and Red Wil
low precincts A D Johnston was
chosen for Valley Grange and William
Byfield for Red Willow
At the election of officers W S
Fitch was chosen president again and
Mrs R H Thomas was reelected secre
tary
In the absence of Mrs Thomas her
husband served as secretary at this
meeting
While all the records of the society
were destroyed with the residence of
Mrs Thomas week before last it will
be pleasing news to the old settlers to
know that she bad just sent a copy of
the records complete to the Nebraska
Historical society who made a record of
the same in Lincoln so that a new and
practically complete record can be se
cured from the state society
The president was authorized to ap
point a committee of three to provide
special music for next meeting of the
society
The Red Willow County Old Settlers
association has a great and increasingly
important existence before it Long
may it flourish
