new windmill and tank at the Trenton stock yards Engineer and Mrs G W Perkins came up from Republican Wednesday He returned on No U but Mrs Perkins will visit the home folks several days The company will have an important case in court in Omaha next week and employes from the different branches of the service at this place will be there Monday to testify in the matter The Lexington Pioneer says a deed was filed in the office of the county clerk of Dawson county last week by which the Nebraska and Colorado Rail road Company was sold to the Chicago Burlington Quincy Railroad Co The Nebraska and Colorado railroad is better known in this part of the state as the High Line and runs through the south west corner of Dawson county No consideration is named except that the C B Q agrees to pay stockholders of tho Nebraska and Colorado five dol lars for each share of stock they may own One of the surprising things brought out in several of the examinations held in past years by the Burlington medi cal department is that the sight of some employes improve Some of the keenest eyes in the service are found among engineers and trainmen who have reached middle age and beyond Not long ago a Rock Island examina tion indicated that the best pair of eyes and the sharpest ears belonged to a veteran engineer who was shaving the sixty year old limit closely An old Burlington engineer declares that the eye and ear like the muscles and the brain grow stronger and better with constant use He had rather indifferent eyes when he first entered the employ of the road but his optics subscribing through The McCook Tribune A Great Convention The eighth biennial convention of the grand international brotherhood of loco motive engineers and grand internation al auxiliary to brotherhood of locomo tive engineers is now in session in Mem orial hall Columbus Ohio to continue in session until close of the month This will doubtless go down in history of the brotherhood as one of the great est meetings they have ever held All the grand officers are already present and almost 800 delegates were registered on the opening day Wednesday It is expected that between 3000 and 4000 engineers will attend this great conven tion Columbus is a great convention city and is arranging to give the brotherhood and auxiliary a big time outside of the business sessions in balls receptions
