Arrangements have been made to have
a furnace put under the Presbyterian
church and the work of excavating was
begun this week
Robert Murphy had the misfortune to
drop the windmill he was erecting for

up from Hill City Kansas recently with
two four horse teams after some pota
toes They took back with them about
100 bushels
Two more of Howard Rubys children
have the scarlet fever The fever seems
to be broken and they are doing well
George Weatherwax has been helping
care for the children
M C Stevens has sold his interest in
the hardware store to Marion Overstake
who will move up from the Stevens farm
We understand that Mr Stevens will
take charge of his farm for a while at
least
Ruth E Riggs left onSatnrdays train
for Beaver City She has been visiting
at Oberlin Cedar Bluffs and nursing
sick grand children at Lyle Kansas
She will work for Sheriff Modlin in Bea
ver City
Mrs E P Day went over to her
fathers Mr Banthams before the sale

precinct Kansas last Friday evening
and took in 33 with which they will

The old gentleman is an old soldier and
would be pleased to meet the old soldiers
in this neighborhood
There will be no school Thanksgiving
Day Miss May Moore will spend the
vacation at her home in Indianola and
Missllannan in McCook There will be
no school Friday but this day will be
made up by the teachers
Mrs W H Scofield gave a reception
totheWilsonville mission circle About
fifteen ladies were up from Wilsonville
and a number of the Lebanon circle re
sponded to an invitation and were pres
ent A delightful time is reported
Mr and Mrs Jesse Shoemaker buried
their 18-months-old baby at Long Branch
cemetery last Friday This is near their
old home They live now four miles
east of Lebanon The little one fell into
a candy bucket containing about six
inches of water While the frantic
mother ran to call the father the little
one perished
P B Garrett received a card from his
brother Rev Frank Garrett who was on
his way to China as a missionary The
trip from Lebanon to Nankin China
took 28 days about 20 days being spent
on water On the ship with them as far
as Vladivostok were 43 other missionaries
and ten children The trip was a pleas
ant one only two days of stormy weather
during the voyage A number of the
missionaries were from Monmouth Illi
nois
Mr and Mrs H Cowden are home
from Benkelman where they have been
visiting Mr Cowdens daughter and
family The son-in-law Wise Wiggins
came through at the same time with his
father-in-laws cattle 250 head that he
has been pasturing during tin past sum

Rev Predoehl preached at Osburn
north of McCook last Sunday This is
his last appointment at that place as we
understand he has accepted a call to
preach in Hamilton county this state
He will preach every Sunday at his home
church until leaving for his new charge
about January 1st
