Mrs W H Scofield gave a reception

fifteen ladies were up from Wilsonville
and a number of the Lebanon circle re
sponded to an invitation and were pres
ent A delightful time is reported
Mr and Mrs Jesse Shoemaker buried
their 18-months-old baby at Long Branch
cemetery last Friday This is near their
old home They live now four miles
east of Lebanon The little one fell into
a candy bucket containing about six
inches of water While the frantic
mother ran to call the father the little
one perished
P B Garrett received a card from his
brother Rev Frank Garrett who was on
his way to China as a missionary The
trip from Lebanon to Nankin China
took 28 days about 20 days being spent
on water On the ship with them as far
as Vladivostok were 43 other missionaries
and ten children The trip was a pleas
ant one only two days of stormy weather
during the voyage A number of the
missionaries were from Monmouth Illi
nois
