State Journal : W. F. Critchfield of
Nance county has commenced proceed-
ngs in the supreme court for the pur
pose of testing the validity of the law ,
) assed by the last legislature , providing
'or a register of deeds in certain coun
ties. It will be remembered that this is
the act in which a mistake was made in
enrolling. It was the intention of the
O
egislature to provide for a register of
deeds in counties having a population
of 15,000 and upwards. The act was
passed and received the approval of the
governor ; but when the enrolled act
was examined it was fouiid that one
cipher had been omitted , which made
it read 1,500 , instead of 15,000 as in
tended by the originators of the act.
The action is brought to compel the
county clerk of Nance county , J.W.Mc-
Jlellan , to include , in the election no
tice of officers to be voted for at the
general election , that of register of
ieeds.
