proposed new county of Iligjjins
submit the following report :
We find that the petition con
tains 773 names , we find that the
abstract of votes fet the year
1'JOS , furnished by the county
clerk there were polled 13K ( >
votes , and further find that the
said petition contains a majority
of 120 signers and legal voters.
We further Gnd that the pro
posed new county of Iliggins
will contain more than 4 > 0
quarc miles , leaving the county
f Custcr with more than 450
quarc miles.
We therefore recotmuend that

he question of the erection of
he proposed new county of Hig-
jins , be submitted to a vote of
he people of Custer county , Ne
braska , at the next general elcc-
ion , and that notice be given ,
and that a vote be canvassed as
required by law in such cases
and that the form of ballot shall
be "For the new County of IJig-
jins" and "Against the new
County of Iliggins. "

the proposed new county of Shel-
lou made the following report
Which petition was in words
and figures as follows :
To the Board of Supervisors
Custer County , Nebraska.
Honorable Sirs : We , the un
lersigned , legal voters of Custer
count } * , Nebraska , residing ii
the territory hereinafter describ
ed and sought to be detache <
from Custer county , do respect
; ully petition your honorable
jody for the erection of a new
county out of the territory no\\
comprising Custer county , N > . -
braska , and that the question be
submitted to a vote of the pee
ple at the next general election
and that you call and order such
election. The new county shall
be known as Sheldon county and
be bounded and described as fol
lows :
Commencing at the northeast
corner of section 25 , township
IS , range 17 , on the cast county
line of said county , thence run
ning west about 18 miles to the
northwest corner of section 30 ,
township 17 , range 1 < J , Ihcnce
south two miles to the southwest
corner of section 31 , same town
and range ; thence east on the
township line about one-half
mile to the northwest corner of
section 6 , township Id , range 10 ;
thence south about six miles to
the i.orthwest corner of section 6
township 15 , range 19 , thence
west about 6 miles to the north
west corner section 6 , town 15 ,
range 20 , thence south about 18
miles to the county line and the
southwest corner of section 31 ,
township 13 , range 20 , thence
cast along the south line of said
county about 24 miles to the
southeast corner of Custcr coun
ty , thence north and west along
the east line of said county about
2d miles to the northeast corner
of section 25 , township 17 , range
17 , and the place of beginning.
We certify that we live on the
land described opposite our
names , -uid we ask that our
names be counted in favor of
said petition , and that in no
event shall they be counted
against it.

Frank Jennings , being first
luly sworn on his osth , says ,
that he has resided in the County
of Custcr and state of Nebraska ,
for about 24 years , that he is
well ac quainted with the voters
residing in the territory sought
to Vc detached from Custcr
county and known as Sheldon
county , that he has carefully
read the petitions circulated by
Frank Jennings , J. IS. Rirgent ,
L. 13. Kelly , A. II. Barks and
Charles Mattlcy and the names
attached to said petitions arc the
genuine signatures of the per
sous they represent , and the said
petitions contain a majority of
all the legal voters residing iu *
said territory described as Shel
don county as affiant verily
believes.
Affiant further says that he
has taken the certificate from
the county clerk as to the num
ber of voters residing in said
Territory at the last election and
added thereto all the new comers
since then , that said petition is
sufficient to a number to entitle
them to relief prayed for.

posed new county of Sheldon
will contain more than 450
square miles , leaving1 the county
of Custcr with more than 450
square miles.
We therefore recommend that
the petition be granted and that
the question of the erection of
the proposed now county of Shel
don be submitted to a vote of
the people of Custer county , Ne
braska , at the next general elec
tion , and that notice be given ,
and that the vote be canvassed
as required by law in such cases ,
and that the form of ballot shall
be "For the new County of Shel
don" and "Against the new
Cunty of Sheldon. "
