their first united prayer meeting
on April 9th in the M. E , church
with Rev. Miller of the M. P.
church in charge. On April 15
Rev. W. E. Mathew led one in
thc M. P. church. It is proposed -

'fhe citizens of the 'l'hird
ward held a meeting in the officc
of Judge Armour Monday night
for the purpose of effecting an
organization with the object of
improving that part of the city.
'rhe meeting was called to order
by A. R. Humphrev and on motion -
tion C. S. Martin. was elected
temporary chairman and E. E.
Wimmer , secretary. Remarks
were made by Humphrey , Martin
and Dr. Day on the subject of
improvement. Judge Armour
suggested that an organization .
be effected by electing a presi- I
'dent , vice-president , and secretary -
tary and that the ladies be asked
to lend their co-operation in the
matter of improvement of that
portion of the city. On motion
thc meeting proceeded to elcet
officers by ballut. C. S. Martin
was clected president and E. E.
Wimmer , Secretary. On motion
it was decided to name the organization -
ganization the 'rhird Ward Im-
provcment Club. On motion of
Reneau , the chair was authorized
to appoint a "look-out" committee -
mittee , one from each principal
street running east and west , said
committee to report at next meet-
ing. The chair appointed as
such committe , l eneau , Day , C.
L. Mullins , Apple , 'l'ipton , Mrs.
Richardson , Mrs. Farrell , Mrs.
Smith. On motion of Dr. Day
a committee of three was ap-
pointcd on articles of agreement.

after 10 o'clock that night with
those called to take in the sights.
'l'he third room which is occupied -
ed with china ware and musicial
instruments was not forgotten
by the visitors. The afternoon
crowd was composed of those in i
from the country , the farmers
and their wives. In the evening
the people of the city thronged
the place until it was difficult to
move about in the rooms. A free
drawing was an attractive featur :
of the afternoon and evening ,
which enabled all to draw a prize
as a memento of the occasion.
Several hundred articles were
thus carried away by the visitors
without money or without price.
Music was a feature of the opening -
ing that furnished amusement
for those who have an ear for it.
Charley Robinson presided at the
piano and Henry Honts worked. .

Mrs. Parisade Squires , at the
home of her son J. S. Squires in
this city , with bronchitis , age
82 . Years. The deceased resided
at Brooldyn , Iowa , with her
daughter 1\1rs. 1\IatlcU. She had

'been in poor health for some time
and came out here Oil a \'Isit
some some three weeks previolls
to her death with the hopes of
improving her health. For a
time she felt much better and indication -
dication were favorable until
Wednesday before her death
when a turn for the worsc came.
Her remains were shipped to
Brooklyn for interment Sunday ,
accol panied by J. S. Squires a1 d
wife and her daughter Mrs.
Mana tt. 'rhe sympathy of the
community is extended to the
relatives in their bereavement.
