Thanks again. for hope, opportunity, independence Forensic Trophy Won by Creighton The State Championship Tro phy in the men’s division of the Nebraska Intercollegiate captured by Creighton Univer sity. Jerry O’Kief, Wood Lake, Neb., and Franklin Barrett, 4208 Bedford Avenue, were awarded the traveling award after com piling a record of four wins and one losa In the annual tourna ment. The meeting was held Saturday at Dana College, Blair. Neb. The Creightonites received staunch support from their col leagues in die Junior division. In this competition Creighton teams finished first and second. Jerome R. Crooms, 2707 Maple Street, and Michael L. Carsey, 1611 Frederick Street, competed as one unit. The second Junior division entry from the Hilltop was Don R. Prinz, West Point, Neb., and Geraldine Brady, 4032 Burt Street. The newly-crowned men’s state champions were severely challenged by Larry Lechner and Bill Milldycke of Kearney State Teachers College who had a similar mark of four wins and one loss in the competition. The women’s division trophy went to Christine Larson and Carol Ruge of the University of Omaha with a record of three wins and two losses. Nancy Hoppel and Linda Mann of Midland College also had a three-two mark in the tourna ment. Teams were debating both sides of the question Resolved: That the Requirement of Mem bership in a Labor Organiza tion as a Condition of Employ ment Should be Illegal.. Viola Dougla* Mrs. Viola Douglas, age 52 years, of 975 No. 27 St., expired suddenly Tuesday morning Febr. 25, 1958 at a local hos pital. A native of Evergreen, Ala., she came to Omaha 40 years ago arid was an ardent worker at Pilgrim Baptist Church. She is survived by her son, Eugene Harrison; sister, Mrs. Hettie Golden; 2 brothers, Joe and Patrick Golden; aunt, Mrs. Mena Bowens, all of Omaha; 2 nieces, Mrs. Hazel Young of Omaha, and Mrs. Mary Gaskin of Oakland, Calif.; 3 nephews, Herman, Mack, and Penn Franklin of Omaha; daughter in-law, Mrs. Beatrice Harrison and a host of other relatives. Funeral services will be held Thursday Febr. 27, 1958 at 2:00 p.m. from the Pilgrim Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Fa vors officiating. Interment will be in the family plot at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Davis Dies John Henry Davis, age 60 years, of 3707 No. 23, St., ex pired Monday morning March 3, 1958 at the Veteran* Admin istration hospital. A native of Navasota, Texas, he was a resident of Omaha 34 years, and was a veteran of World War I. Mr. Davis was Recording Sec retary of Iroquois Lodge No. 92. I.B.P.O.E. of W„ Chief Scribe of the Past Exalted Rulers Coun cil No. 68, and Captain of Ralph Bates Marching Club Antlered Guard. He was for many years Fi nancial Secretary of Rough Ashler Lodge No. 1, F. & A. M. tP.H.A.i, and is a Past Worthy Patron of Shaffer Chapter No. 1, O.E.S. Past President of the Metho dist Mens Club, he was a form er member of the Trustee and Usher Boards of Clair Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Blanche E. Davis. A native of Nashville, Tenn., he was an Omaha resident 41 years and was the oldest mem ber in Mt, Moriah Baptist Church.
