Two Boys, 10, Left Alone,
Enter Apartment, Steal Food
On Wednesday, July 10, we fi
nally accomplished what we had
been trying to do for several days
—to trap two youngsters in the
act of molesting and destroying
property in the Omaha Guide
building in the upstairs apart
ment. Yes—two little boys of
about 10 years of age were caught
running away from the building.
We forced them to stop and then
questioned them. We found that
they had been left by themselves
for the entire day—not only that
day, but every day. One of the
boys had no mother and father—
the other, just a mother who had
to make a living for herself aud
Eisenhower
Confers On
Civil Rights
President Eisenhower, at one
time, appointed Senator Russell as
a foreign representative. About
this time Senator Russell was
taken suddenly ill. The outcome
we do not know. One thing we
do know of we believe—that
President Eisenhower was anxious
to give Senator Russell an insight
of the world’s opinion of Amer
ica’s ignbrant prejudices. Presi
dent Eisenhower, for a long per
iod of time, has known that there
is racial hatred in over % of the
World’s population. It is known
amongst the people throughout
Europe and Asiatic countries bow
the 36 million so-called Negro
population in America- is treated.
That is why he appointed Senator
Russell as a foreign representative
of America.

her son. Apparently, she had of
fered the orphan child a place to
stay there with her son. They
were eating apples which they had
obviously stolen from the refriger
ator in the upstairs apartment
Afterwards we found that other
food in the apartment had also
been consumed. We questioned
them further and found out that
they were members of the
Y.M.C.A. but very seldom went.
This is just a small example
of a big problem that confronts
the citizens of our community.!
There are so many youngsters
facing the same situation as the
two small boys mentioned above.
There is much to be done and we
are doing so little. What is to be
done? It is up to us, as a com
munity and decent American citi
zens, to try to steer these young
sers in such a way so as to make
our community a fit and proper
place for the future generation—
their generation.

Magicians
Scheduled
For Omaha
A prediction of some pretty
tricky people to be in town in
1958 was made by the Omaha
Chamber of Commerce.
The reason was the decision at
a meeting in Hartford, Connecti

Magicians to hold its 1958 conven
tion in Omaha. According to Nor
man Haried, Convention Bureau
manager of the Omaha Chamber
of Commerce, the city was award
ed the meeting after considering
invitations from numerous citie3
throughout the United Stales.
Some 400 amateur and profes
sional magicians from North and
South America will be in Omaha
next year on May 29-June 1.
Harry Farnham, Omaha attor

magicians, will be General Chair
