Two Boys, 10, Left Alone, Enter Apartment, Steal Food On Wednesday, July 10, we fi nally accomplished what we had been trying to do for several days —to trap two youngsters in the act of molesting and destroying property in the Omaha Guide building in the upstairs apart ment. Yes—two little boys of about 10 years of age were caught running away from the building. We forced them to stop and then questioned them. We found that they had been left by themselves for the entire day—not only that day, but every day. One of the boys had no mother and father— the other, just a mother who had to make a living for herself aud Eisenhower Confers On Civil Rights President Eisenhower, at one time, appointed Senator Russell as a foreign representative. About this time Senator Russell was taken suddenly ill. The outcome we do not know. One thing we do know of we believe—that President Eisenhower was anxious to give Senator Russell an insight of the world’s opinion of Amer ica’s ignbrant prejudices. Presi dent Eisenhower, for a long per iod of time, has known that there is racial hatred in over % of the World’s population. It is known amongst the people throughout Europe and Asiatic countries bow the 36 million so-called Negro population in America- is treated. That is why he appointed Senator Russell as a foreign representative of America. The Senator is known for hi* uprighteousness to all man-kind - - North Side Soiree Was A Success ' The Center Committee, Mrs, Charles Brown, chairman, wishes to thank all the friends of the community who helped make the recent Soiree such a success. The YWCA yard was gaily decorated with flowers and streamers, and gaily dressed young hostesses. Five gaily bedecked tables, laden with food, and refreshments en ' ticed the many guests who passed through the Y. A total of fourteen community groups joined to make the occa sion a memorable one. These groups were, Twenty-Forty dub'. Beau Brummette dub; Jolly Mates Club; The Links; Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority; Dcitha Sig ma Theta Sorority; Zeta Phi Beta Sorority; Memo Charity Club; Queen of Hearts; Alpha Kappa Pilgrim Baptist Church; Christian Alpha Sorority; Opti-Mrs.-Ciub of Pilgrim Baptist Church, Christian Women’s Community Fellowship, Debonnaire dub; Gardenia Gar denia Garden Club. Officers and members of the a-' bove groups will be given a pro gram of appreciation at the An nual Open House, September 22, 1857. They were eating apples which they had obviously stolen from the refriger ator in the upstairs apartment Afterwards we found that other food in the apartment had also been consumed. We questioned them further and found out that they were members of the Y.M.C.A. but very seldom went. This is just a small example of a big problem that confronts the citizens of our community.! There are so many youngsters facing the same situation as the two small boys mentioned above. There is much to be done and we are doing so little. What is to be done? It is up to us, as a com munity and decent American citi zens, to try to steer these young sers in such a way so as to make our community a fit and proper place for the future generation— their generation.
