Mr A R Goodlett who is on his vacation, in order that members could report on the progress of the birth-dated calendar Mr- Howell introduced, before the business- St ohn’s AME's new pastor for the 1945-46 Conference Year who comes to us well qualified and able to serve the spiritual needs of St Johns AME Church from Sacramento, California in the pers on of the Reverend Mr Childres who is accompanied by his lovely wife Mrs- Childres- The Reverend Mf Childres graciously consented to lead the group in the opening prayer, and later he commended the club on its program and work its members are contributing to the help building of St Johns- After these brief remarks from the Rev erend Mr Childres, we listened to the reports from the advertisement committee- Individual members re ported upon the satisfactory pro gress that was being made in secur ing names to be placed under the different dates of our calendar The meeting was adjourned wits the announcement of the next meet ing at the home of Mr Burrell on Sunday, October 14th, 1945 at 2006 Maple St., at 4:30 pm MEMO CLUB The gala Fall opening of the Memo Club was a colossal success on last Sunday afternoon in the beautiful home of Mr and Mrs Kenneth Moore, 2524 Blondo- The opening event took the form of a very swanky cocktail party. The unique favors of book match es, coasters and cocktail napkins, all bearing the Club name, in the club colors of red and white, were most outstanding and very beauti ful- Evfcryone who attended will retain them for their scrap book The colors were carried out to the minutest detail, even as the guest registered on white paper with red pencil The ever alert members were ready to answer every beck and call in order to see that their guests had a delightful evening It was one of the nicest and most delightful, unique affairs that Om ahans have enjoyed recently. The Memo-Club will be doing other things- Watch for them SOUTH SIDE CIVIC CLUB The South Side Civic Club met a; the home of Mrs Iola Fay Holli day on the 1st of October, 194s with the President presiding. The Chaplain Mrs Mary E Foster read the 23rd Psalms and led pray er Next in order was roll call, and report of the committees The Civic Club is planning a pro gram for the near future The Club enjoyed a very tasty lunch at Mrs Holliday's and a vote of thanks was given to the hostess We will return on October 11 at the home of Mrs- Day Hogan on 27th and Harrison St The Civic Club enjoyed a pleas ant evening at the Community Fair given at the Urban League- The Chairman of the Art Dept Mrs Luella Blackston had the pleasure of seeing her crotched apron in the World Herald and the Ocaha Guide Mrs- Lydia Alston won first antr second prize on quilts , We had a very pleasant session > in the canning class held at Wood son Center Members of the class were the Civic Club members— at the closing of the class Mrs Kate Smith/ ' presented the (instructor with a lovely apron from the class Mrs- Clara Mae Prater, Pres , Mrs Beatrice Williams, Secy • Miss Eiloise Devereaux, reporter Guide Office Visitor Mrs Elipabeth Jordan, the wide awake Secy of the Northside YW CA made a very pleasant call at the Guide office and was very much pleased with the service and the publicity that the Guide has given to all of the race groups and to the public in general Benefit St- John A\fE Church One of the many activities soon sored by Mrs- Ruben C- Price and Mrs- W- P Ervin for the Build ing fusd are the "Veiled Prophet" on Friday October 12th at 8 pm at the Church Those of you who en joy beauty and splendor will not want to miss seeing the procession of these lovely young ladies and RADIATOR •» EPAIIINO RADIATORS CLEANED, REPAIRED. The meeting in its entirety was quite inspiring and the Zion Baptist Church with its pastor and official board are very grateful to the Sal em Baptist church for allowing them to have both the attendance banner as well as the financial ban ner, which they have pledged to keep.
