Negroes; helped to get the county
poll tax removed from Davidson
County; helped to get 12,000 Ne
groes registered in the recent e
lection; helped to save the life of
Robert Buchanan, unjustly accus
ed of rape. Paid $100.10 for a
stenographer to make a word by
word record of the case as it was
being tried in the lower court.
This record was the basis of an
appeal to a higher court.

Quince Jam
5 cups (2% lbs.) prepared fruit;
7 cups (3 lbs.) sugar; % bottle
I fruit pectin.
To prepare fruit, peel and core
about 3 pounds fully ripe quinces.
Grind, using finest knife of food
chopper. Add 1Vfc cups water and
juice of 1 medium lemon. Bring to
a boil, cover, and simmer 15
minutes.
Measure sugar and prepared fruit
Into large kettle, mix well, and
bring to a full rolling boil over
hottest fire. Stir constantly before
