    TOLES HANDS BARLUND
NEAT TRIMING
Ringside Hipprodome, New York
City.—'From Detroit the land of
the Brown Bomber, came Roscoe'
Toles to uphold the heavyweight
Race division in the Bombers ab-j
sence. Being very evenly weighed
at 197 pounds; Roscoe proceeded
to give the Gunner a neat boxing
lesson. Taking 7 out of 10 rounds j
while the Gunner received credit j
for 2 the other even. Toles lost
no time going to work on his op
position for he drew blood from
the Gunner’s face before the
round ended. It was a tough strug
gle all the way, and was not the
victory of the walkaway variety.
Roscoe found in the Gunner a tough
man to down. It was a mystery he
did not hit the deck at Holes jolt
ed him with several stiff right
rooks to the face that continued
o draw the crimson. Toles took the
first 4 rounds and the Gunner came
Back in the 5th landing a few jolt
ing hooks that reached their mark
effectively.
The 6th was about even and the
7th Roscoe put the Gunner on
the ropes in a distressed condition
from a volley of rights to the jaw.
The tough old eagle bird weathered
the storm showing remarkable
ceurage. The crowd begin to sing
the Bronx cheers in the direction
of Roscoe. Again Toles turned on
the steam to take the round By
a wide margin. The ninth found
the Gunner making one of Custers
last stands. He scored repeatedly
with a few hooks to the midrift of
Toles. Rescue came back missing
a few of the punches he threw. Both
men showed slight traces of tir
ing with the Gunner still bleeding
about the face. Toles shook him
good in the final round which found
both men trying desperately at
the bell. Barlund took a lot of
punishment and won the laurels of
the crowd by sheer gameness and
courage.
A preliminary bout that brought
together Eddie Flipper of San
Francisco Cal. and Lou Raymond
brought a deservedly popular vic
tory for the brown boy from the
west. A clean cut classy youngs
ter this one, and a crowd pleasing
scrapper. He won by a wide margin
in his six round bout.
While talking to Harry Balough
at the ringside tonight, Mike Jacobs
genial master of Ceremonies a near
tradegy was recited by him. Few
people in the Hipprodome knew his
wife of 23 years of married life
was near the point of death. Know
ing him as I do, it can be clearly
seen that Harry has worried off at
least 15 pounds of flesh. Bill Ro
binson of Movie fame sitting near
by and the condolences of he and
the writer were offered him in the
deepest hour of sympathy.

PLAN TO TRAIN TECHNICIANS
FOR THE MOVIES
Los Angeles, Calif.—(WS)—The
bugaloo of colored men and women
securing jobs as technical workers
in the motion picture industry has
been lack of experience and Ccorge
Randol Productions, a newly form
ed corporation is planning to train
and give exerience to colored per
sons interested in this phase of the
work.
This was learned last week as
the former New York stags star
and Hollywood writer-director laid
plans to get the stock of the com
pany temporary offices at 312
Blodgett Building, 2510 So. Cential
Avenue of this city.
When reached at his office, Mr.
Randol stated, “The company will i
be willing and eager to give an op
portunity to persons with ability.
In the past it has been difficult
for Negroes to get jobs as techni
cians, because one must have ex
perience before studios will con
sider them and under existing con
ditions ,it is practically impossi
ble to get this much needed exper
ience. We expect to find these peo
ple with ability and train them for
these most impoprtant positions,
“Our plan embraces workers in
all division of the motion picture
field and while we have enough
stores for three productions of at
least 4 pictures per year, we are
in the market for good stories and
interested in persons who think
they can write fo rthe screen.’’

"Eye Make-Up for Women who
Wear Glasses"
Brows should be well-groomed,
but never plucked to a fine, severe
line, and they should not be allowed
to grow too close over the nose
to conflict with the bridge of
the glasses. It is best to darken
light eyebrows otherwise the top
line of the glasses will be em
phasized unduly.
Eyes with no make-up are likely
to appear pale and characterless
moreover, when no make-UD is used
undue emphasis is placed on the
gla'-es. But because glasses, as
a rule, in even th ** mildest pros
criptions, magnify' the eyes some
what you shlnud not use too much
make-up around the eyres. If too
much mascara is used, the lashes
will look very coarse and st:ff. A

little shadow upon the upper lids
also tends to draw attention to the
eyes, rather than the glasses.
If the lenses are round or oval,
your brows should never be shaped
in straight lines so that they are
broken by the curve of the rims.
The brow s should be arched so that
they follow' the curve of the rims.
If glasses are straight across the
top, follow he straight lineg of the!
lines of the lenses.
In applying rouge, care must bo,
taken not to run the color up
harshly under the glasses, or it i
will look even heavier through the
lenses and call conspicuous atten
tion to the glasses -To avoid an un
even effect, the rouge should be >
blended very subtly and gradually,
just under the glasses edge, to j
make the softest possible transition
from cheek to glasses. If you have
nice lips you may use more than
the average amount of lipstick,
for a vivid and interesting mouth
can do a lot to draw attention a
wray from the glasses. In no event
should the lips be left pale and
unrouged, for this gives too much
prominence to the upper part of
the face.
The woman who wears glasses
can go a step further in this di
rection than the one who does not,
and keep within the bounds of good
taste.

IN RELIGION & THOUGHT
by ROBERT L. MOODY
You Should Know That—
“O Little Town of Bethlehem",
was written by Bishop Brooks
with music by Lewis H. Redner in
1868. On Christmas Eve of 1865
Rev. Brooks was in Palestine and
during the evening he had gone out
to stand upon one of the starlit
hills of Bethejehem before the hour
came to celebrate the Christ’s birth
in tho Church of Nativity. As He
stood looking upon the little city,
a great wave of inspiration and
adoration swept over him.
Three years later, when the pro
blem of presenting a new Christ
mas song to the Sunday schools,
Dr. Brooks in elaboration with
