LONESOME HOUSE
By Theresa M Skinner
Lonsome house is at the end of
the lane
Where the pathway has lost its
trail,
The trees around it are not the
same
They are leafless, bare and frail
Their branches reach upward as
if in prayer
For this lonesome house all alone,
Standing silent with windows
bare
This house that used to he home.
Where children’s voices use to
shout with mirth
And the wall with their laughter
ring
Father and mother sat by the
hearth.
And all the old songs they would
sing
While the children listened joyful
ly by
And would oft times join in the
song
But that was in th« days gone by
When lonesome house used to be—
home

BAHA'I NEWS
The Baha’i Fast begins March
2 and ends March 21 and consists
in abstaining from food or drink
from sunrise to sunset.
Fasting is one of the divine rnm
mandmervts which has existed from
all time in all the Holy Books.
Special times are appointed and
particular forms are ordained by
every eligion
While material fasting is ab
stainging from the appetites of the
body, spiritual fasting is this, that
man abstain from selfish passions,
from negligence and satanic ani
mal traits, purifying the heart
from every stain of egotism, re.
placing material tendencies with
spiritual susceptibilities refin
ing the moral fibre, and intensify,
ing the fire of the love of God; in
other words beaut if uly explained
in the following prayer which is
one of thp prayers use<l by the
Baha’is during their fast.
Oh God! As I am fasting from
the appetites of the body and not
occupied with eating and drinking,
even so purify and make, holy my
heart and my life from ought elsp
save Thy love, and protect and
preserve my soul from self-pas
sioms and animal traits. Thus may
thp spirit associate* with the frag,
ranees of Holiness and fast from
everything Save Thy mention.”
