The Spirit of Christmas
We have begun preparation for
the most joyous season of the year,
the birthday anniversary of our
Lord. Tradition has given us many
features to be used during the
celebration e. g. carol singing, the .
burning of the Yule Log, Santa
Claus and many other interesting
practices.
The legend of Santa Claus seem,
inly is the most ponular. Though
we don’t clarify its deceptive ap
'•ince. the spirit of Santa Claus
is v*iy practical. H would be
very fitting if we were to give all
of our alms and Christmas gifts in
the mysterious way that ‘Old
Saint Nic’' gives his.
Our homes and communities
would be kept very joyful if we
would smile and be as interested
in the happiness of others as
“Santa” does. Let us not only
think of our friends, but remember
the poor, sick and “shut in’ people
of our community. Let us carry
them a bit of the cheer that we
possess.
MT. NERO BAPTIST CHURCH
Helen Bradshaw, Reporter
Rev. Gates, Pastor
The Mt. Nebo services were well
attended despite the unfavorable
weather. Sunday was covenant
meeting and the services were in
deed spiritual food to the soui.
Mt. Nebo added another member
to the church role. Our BYPU is
not progressing as we would like
for it to be owing to the illness
of the president.
Sunday night, Rev. J. A. Harris
■preached a wonderful sermon,
using as his text a scripture found
in 2nd Peter 3rd chapter and the
18th verse. His subject was "Chris
tian Growth."
After the sermon of Rev. Harris
Communion was held.
You are always invited to come
and worship with us.

IN MEMORY OF
ALBERT MASSEY
Brother Albert Massey, a gentle.
uan and citizen, and a member of
riair Chapel Methodist church of
his city (Omaha), passed his final
rest Sunday night November 29.
Brother Massey joined the Grove
Methodist church in the year 1916
luring the pastorate of the late
Rev. G. G. Logan, he then was a
railroad man, but attended his
:hurch when he could conveniently
Jo so. He was always willing to
jive of his means for the support
of his church and whenever there
was a banquet he would admirably
serve with much pleasure. Since
the railroad life vanished he has
been inthis city constantly and em
ployed as a hotel worker. He was
mid too be one of the best and polit
est men serving in that capacity.
The last few years his health failed
him but he would make his way to
church every Sunday, was a regu
lar attendant of Sunday school.
Rev. Con well and members mourn
the loss of Bro. Massey. Funeral
was attended by Rev. Coawell.
Life’s rosy morn, through earth
and sky
Reveals the greatest creators
plan;
Proclaimed his soverign majesty
And shows his love for sinful
man
Then breaks the storm morn
forget,
When passions rule at noon of
life;
But thou O Lord, forsakest not,
Thy name doth quell the deadly
strife
When evening shadow round us
creep,
The weary heart in thee finds
rest;
Life's journey o’er we fall asleep
To wake immortal, mid the blest.
I
Where hearts and voices never
tire,
There evermore Thy praise shall
sing,
In union with the Angel choir.
‘‘Hosanah to our Lord and King."
