(Composit Dishonesty) (For The Literary' Service Bureau) Text: Thou halt not defraud thy neighbor—Leviticus 19:13 1- Dishonesty Is Sin- In the Bible nothing . is more emphatically con demned than dishonesty in its var ous phase, perhaps in no age was it more necessary to stres “Thou Shalt not defraud thy neighbor” than in this age. 2- Some Special Forms- Some of the forms or phase cf dishonesty are, embezzlement of trust funds; mis ruresentation in buying and sellinng; oppressing the hiroling in his wages; the actual taking what belongs to an other. The most damaging aspect of this matter is the fact that for the most part these ‘‘malfactors of great wealth” are members of evangical c hurches. Some of them occupy high positions in these religious organiza tions 3- Children Encouraged in Fiaud Parent oftn discuss their sharp prac tices in the hearing of their children They laugh and tell how they beat omebody; how they picked up some | thing some person dropped; how they, | got away with overchange; how they drove a bargain and “got the best of it; and to those children, dishonesty will not seem wrong- The times de mand emphasis on this text: “Thou shalt not defraud thy neighbor.” Maxie Miller Writes: (For The Literary Service Bureau) MARRIED MAN OFFERS TO BUY UNFOTUNATE WOMAN — SHE PLEADS“OX IN THE MIRE”—ALL BETTER GO RIGHT! The only guest present were Rev- L- L- Cham j bers of University Place, and Mrs Press Hyeronmou and her friend Mrs- Donnelly both of Omaha. Both groom and bride wore in good health, and they sat around and look at ea#h other, and talked about the happen ing 36 years ago Rev- Burckhardt said his wife had ! grown sweeter and prettier thru the years, Mrs. Burckhardt said their domestic relationship have been a i pleasant voyage thus far, and the : credit is not all due us, but the credit is due, to Christ whom we have given pre-eminence in the home life- Mrs Burckhardt spend much of the 'time alone, was her hus;. and religious and Civic work keeps him some where | else the most of the time. But to this she said as long, as he is contributing to humanity and es pecially in a religious way- I am will ing to make the sacrifice, but I am beginning to wonder in these latter days, that because of his past faith fulness, and my sacrifice uncomplain ingly, if the Lord in the closing of our years which now remains accord ing to the trend of human nature will not be so many. And if the Lord will gTant this request I am sure we both will be happy to be permitted to close out our life’s work together, for the glory of God and help of humanity TALKING THINGS OVER ._ By Mildred J- Bronson “EDUCATION” — “Prepare the Brain, as the Farmer Prepares His Soil.” I have been asked to write upon this subject, and I am indeed glad to know' that so many of my Omaha as wed as out of Town readers has so much interest in my column- I have received quite a number of letters and topics to write upon, telling me of the good that I am doing among my people. Some of them have even asked for my age and photo This topic today, will be a very touching one and should reach the hearts of all of our younger people ’the person that has requested me to write upon it, surely has us at heart •‘Education” is to the people or pur s.-n just, the same as new battlehips that are being built in the time of peace to our country, protection in case of w-ar. Education protects you ,n many ways. This I will try to ex plain in a brief way. My introduction says “Prepac-e the Brains, as the Farmer prepares the soil” is as true as the sun rises. If the soil—left idle and left only to Mother Nature, there w;ll only be grass and weeds a id sometimes bare surface, that even Uv Battle would not be able to live upon. May I quote to you, the foundation on which he built his school, one of the best in this country, for our people. Tuskegee- This is what he said, “Train the hand as well as the Brains.” Friends, this one request from Mr. j Washington, has been discussed and misrepresented in many ways- Some have said, he wanted all Negroes to b-' farm ei-s and many other things, but I saw it, in a different light, and , ! will give you my view upon it- He asked that you educate the hands ai well as the brains, because it really takes both of them to be successful A man that lias a good learning and | ye& has not the different methods of mathmetics or a quick way of pro tecting himself with figures, he is ! sometimes figured out of all he has A preacher all educated bibically, but (rftfmes, some of them have to rely ! upon someone of his deacon board or trustees to handle the welfare of his I church or financial end, who may be smart with the pern or pencil and when the true facts are brought to light, the financial affair of the \ church are in poor circumstances The pastor in this case is not indi rectly to blame- Then turn the case ! around and let the Pastor be educat ed both brains and hands and have an uneducated Deacon Board and Trustees, the financil affairs could be in the same condition A farmer who is educated as far i as he can go, in toiling the soil has brains to harvest all that Mother Earth can produce, and has not the figuring ability to protect himself the j rising and falling of the Dady Mar- j Haven Chapel M- E- Walnut and Whittington- Preaching 11 a- m- Rev-.
