Association Declare* New York, May 21—A clandestine, but vigorous well organized plot is at work to kill the Costigan-Wagner anti-lynching bill in the senate, it was charged here today by Walter White, secretary of the National As sucition for the Advancement of Col ored People The measure is being blocked by a amall group of senators containing some members from northern and west em tales as well as the usual southern senators, the N. We rented a room for the night undressed and were fixing to get in bed- An argu ment arose between us- Oceola Baid, ,T am going to kill you and myself.’ She grabbed her purse from the bur eau, oened it I saw a pistol and be came frightened- In an attempt to wrest the > weapog from her, it was | discharged while i.i her hand ‘The landlady and her son rushed upstairs, and seeing what had happen ed, Mrs. Strowder said, ‘Get her ont of here-' I called a car- Another man helped me place the body in the can- Then I took the woman and dumped her out at 29th and Yates, so it would appear that she had been killed on the street-” Police in searching the premises at 2210 North 27th St. found the gun used in the slaying hidden in the basement Th<s gun hafl been hand led so much that finger prints were not available, Hudgins is being held for further questioning. The Coroner’s in quest will be held Monday at J. D Lewis Mortuary FILES SLIT FOR DAMAGES lira Ella Turner. 2413 Caldwell St filed suit in district court against W. T. Grant Store- The suit follows 'Severe injuries suffered by Mrs Turner as a result from a fall on an oiled and lippery floor while shopping in the store- Mrs- Turner has been under the care of Dr- G- B- Lennox since the day of the injury, Febr. 19. 1934 JUNIOR LEAGUE MEET The Junior League, an organization of young women interested in pro jects related to the interest and en couragement of th community was ree ently organized at the Mid City Com munity Center and Ifrhaft League building under the efficient leadership of Mrs- Vera Cowans, president and Miss Mable Ray, sponsor, plans are under way for a series of events that will both be enjoyable and beneficial. TRIES TO KILL SELF When the fire department answered a call with policemen at 2526 Ohio they found Lillian Johnson, lying on the floor near the front door and three gas jets open in the kitchen- It seems neighbors had smelled the gas and called to have it invetigated Dr- Gooden took charge of the case and the girl was revived- Mrs. Johnson is the housekeeper of Steve Hurd boot black at Paxton Hotel Barber shop- This is her second attempt to take her lfe- No arrest were made as the case was booked as a suicide att empt Harry Baker. Well, I should say not- It was the one most delicious ly dinusing plays ever produeed Little Miss Bernice Saunders played the part of Dolly Berdon. a little devil and whose acting was nothing short of genius stole the entire show away from the leading characters, Alvin Goodwin playing the part of Mr. Abb y and Miss Minnie Prey or playing the part of . the wife No less notable was playing of Geoj. ge Barton did his staff with superb humor- The story followed three wee ks of the life of a married mao- who has a small idea about the importan ce of a woman’s work in the home. He finally is shown the light after a cleverly laid plan by his wife It was a good live comedy in three acts and well directed and made notab le by Mrs- M- A- Sterling. The rest of the cast included. John Adams will file on the Republi can ticket WORLD WAR VETERAN DIES IN ILLINOIS Mr- Fred McCranejr. died at the Veterans Hospital in Hines. Illinois, where he has been about two months He was 43 years of age and a World War Veteran- He was a member of Cleaves Temple C- M- E- Church at 25th and Decatur Sts He was born in Mississippi- Ser vice will be held from Cleaves Temple at 2:30 p- m- Saturday. Rev O. A Calhoun will officiate- The Roosevelt American Legion Post No. 30 will be in charge of the services- He leaves to mourn his loss one brother, Mr- P. E- Anderson and one sister, Mrs Virginia Foster. ASSAILANTS LEAVENO CLUE Mrs- Oceola Walker.2627 N- 25th St late Thursday night or early Friday morning met death from gunshot wo unds inflicted by an unknown assasin The murdered women’s body was riddled with four gunshot wounds, her i body and legs were badly scarred._ : _The body was found at 5:o’clock ! Friday morning lying in a gutter at the corner of 29th and Yates Avenue evidently hurled there from a passing car Police as yet have been unable to locate anyone who saw the women at anytime after 11 :o’clock Thursday nite until tho body was found. The la: time Mrs- Walker was seen alive was ll:o’clock Thursday night She vaa seem getting into a sunset taxi cab near 24th and Patrick Ave- Police ara checking movements from that time Funeral arraignments have not been made The body is at the J- D- Lewis Mortuary Mrs. Walker’s surviving relatives are Miss Lavar Powell daughter Clyde Powell __Bennie_Ray_and Viola Jones, sisters Cara Clay John Clay L B- Clay and Will Clay Brothers TWO ARRESTS MADE IN MUDER CASE Harold Jackson, of 2602 North 30th St- Noticed a body of a woman lying on the side of the road on 20th St between Yates and Burdette at 5:30 a m- He called the police and after investigation, the woman was pro nounced dead by Coroner Steinweiner. It was learned that the girl was Oceola Walker, who had been in the company of Raymond Hudgins in the evening and the shooting had occur ed at 2210 North 27thSt- Hudgins said that the woman shot herself in the presence >f himself and Joe Strow der who lives at 2815 Miami and they hauled her to the spot and left her there A post-mo tern examination showed that the woman had been shot through the right breast with a 38 cal- rang ing to the left Hudgin lives at 1916 North 25th Street and is hed for investigation.
