ments so that they might not fall
into the hands of the Germans, has
just died at Versailles.
The duke of Argyll was 60 years of
age recently. During the last twenty-one
years he has produced upwards
of a dozen books, including the opera
of "Diarmid" in the great jubilee
year.
Dr. Marcus Fitsherbert-Wheatland,
a colored physician of Newport, R. I.,
is recognized as New England's lead
ing specialist in electro-therapeutics
and the X-ray. In early life he was a
shoemaker.
Sienkiewicz, the Polish author, who
is confined to his own house for giv
ing offense to the Russian government
was one of the gifted coterie who in
1877 endeavored to establish a Utopi
an colony 'near Los Angeles, Cal.
Helen Longstreet, daughter of the
famous general, has written in "Lee
and Longstreet at High Tide" the
story of the battle of Gettysburg, an
answer to certain criticisms that have
been leveled at her distinguished

a farmer lad, late in the fifties, he

over the erection in Indianapolis of
a statue of the late President Harri
son. The citizens of Indianapolis de
sire to place the statue on the site
where is to be built the new federal
building. Secretary Shaw, of the
treasury department, recently sent-to
Indianapolis J Knox Taylor, supervis
ing architect of the government, who
reported that the base designed for
the statue was so large that it would
be inharmonious in such close proxi
mity to the building, which is to cost
$1,500,000. Secretary Shaw inclines
to his view, but Vice President Fair
banks has already signed the report
of the statue commission approving
the large base. Secretary Shaw told

ator Beveridge and Representative

in Indianapolis, would agree in appro
val of the large base he would direct
that its erection be permitted despite

city of Lincoln, in and for Lancaster

of the peace issued an order of at
tachment and garnishment of money
and credits due said Ernest Adams
from the Chicago, Burlington & Quin
cy Railway Company to the amount

Whited and Ada B. Whited dated Sep
tember 6, 1902 to secure a note of
$100 of which there is now due $45
with interest from September 6, 1905.
