Washington has been ordered by
President Coolidge as a result of the
charge by ltear Admiral Charles P.
Plunkett, commandant of the Brook-1
lyn navy yard, that the capital is the
wettest city in the United States."
The president upon learning of Ad
miral Plunkett’s statements during a
police trial in New York summoned
Prohibition Commissioner Haynes to
tlie White House and instructed him
to find out if the Brooklyn comman
dant had been correctly quoted and, if
so, to ascertain the basis of his in
formation and initiate an investiga
tion, looking to correction of the al
leged condition in the capital.
