Denies Wooing
- Accused Woman
No Affair of Heart With Helen
Lamb, Delmar Hollow
away Testifies in Fed
eral Court.
Friendship between a prohibition
evidence man and a woman accused
of selling liquor was alleged in Judge
J. AW AVoodrough's courtroom Mon
day afternoon. The case was that
of Helen Lamb, 24, and Edward Kes
sler, both charged with violation of
the national prohibition laws.
The trial was interrupted during
the cross-examination of Delmar
Holloway, informer for Robert Ham
anlick, general prohibition agent.
Hnll iway admitted that he was
‘somewhat friendly” with Mrs.
1 imb, although he purchased two
l ollies of evidence liquor of her, be
sides n number of drinks, at her
homp. 1616 Cass street.
Holloway denied that he told Mrs.
Lamb lhat if she married hint he
would see that the charges would be
dropped by Samardick. Sarnardick
testified that when he raided the al
leged resort, Kessler dumped a oof
fee pot of corn whisky.
Mrs. Lamb is to take the witness
stand this morning.
Didn't Know Name.
Hollaway testified that he regis
tered with a woman at the Harley]
hotel as Mr. and Mrs. Jack Shaw
and not as Jack Shaw and wife.
“I want to enter a vigorous objec
tion against counsel's examination,”
MMiniited Deputy United States Dis
trict Attorney Keyser,
After Lovely finished with a rigid
examination. Judge AA'oodrough stat
ed that he didn't see that it was ma
terial, as what the jury desired to
know was whether any liouot: was
purchased.
"Didn't you register with Mts.
Lamb at the Harley hotel, at loom
237?” asked Attorney AVilliain Love
ly for the defendants.
“I did register but not with Mr*.
Lamb,” replied Holloway.
■'Who did you have?” again queried
Lovely. “Didn’t you walk down the
street towards the hotel with her?”
‘‘Yes, I did,” said Holloway, “but
I did not register with Mrs. Lamb.”
"Did you shake Mrs. Lamb and get
• nother woman and take her to the
hotel.”
“Yes. I did,” he said.
‘ And who was she?”
"I don't know her name.” he said.
Identified by Clerk.
L. E. AA'ilson, clerk at the hotel,
brought a page of the register and
took the stand and identified Hollo
way and Mrs. Lamb as the couple
who registered November 21.
Deputy United States District At
torney Keyser branded as fiction the
defense's attempt to connect Hollo
way with a robbery charge in some
other city.
Jesse Cranny and Kay Lones, at
torneys who lost their liqflor eases
just prior to the starting of the
Lainb-Keislt r trial, and Keymond
Coffey, who lias several liquor cases
MM he tried, whispered advice to the
defendant's counsel. Prosecutor
Keyser called the jury's attention to
tlie intervention of the defeated bar
risters.

I paid a tribute to Hess Dean's pow

Tt was evident that upon a second
thought she had determined to risk no
whit of her familiar foothold In the
Durkee household by an open break
with me.
"Give my beet love to Mother Dur

from Freeport pulled in, and I saw
Delia waving frantically from the
platform to let me know she had
caught it. "Tell her I'm coming to
see her as soon I’m permitted to do
so."
"I'm afraid you will have .to be pa

"Always excepting the faithful

with a gay little laugh for answer,
t.ella also waved to her. and then,
seizing my arm she hurried me
through two cars to a seat which had
no one within earshot of a low tone.
"Madge,” she sahl tensely, "how

have told no one. Hhe could not pos

"Or Dicky,” I finished calmly

The answer. Invested with a non

and threw up her head In startled
fashion.

nothing for either one of us to worry

Dicky or Alfred planned the meeting.
Either it was an accident or Bess

She lifted her hand, which I saw

”1 know I’m an awful idiot, Madge,”
she began quaveringly.
"You're all of that and a good bit

at her and taking the nervous, flutter

wishing devoutly that I could feel as

statement. "I.et me tell you some

“Yes, indeed. Poor Alfred!” she
returned with a world of sympathy
in her gentle, voice. “And every word

If you combined the curative prop
erties of every known “ready-made”
cough remedy, you probably could
not get aa much real curative power
as there is in this simple home-made
cough syrup, which is easily prepared
in a few minutes.
Get from any druggist 2’/i ounce*
of Pinex. pour" it into a pint bottle
and till the bottle with syrup, using
either plain granulated sugar syrup,
clarified molasses, honey, or corn
syrup, as desired. The result is a
full pint of really better cough syrup
than you could buy ready-made for
three times the money. Tastes pleas
ant and never spoils.
This Pinex and Syrup preparation
gets right at the cause of a cough and
gives almost immediate relief. It
loosens the phlegm, stops the nasty
throat tickle anil heals the sore, irri
tated membranes so gently and easily
that it is really astonishing.
A day’s use will usually overcome
the ordinary cough and for bronchitie,
croup, hoarseness and bronchial asth
ma, there is nothing better.
Pinex is a most valuable concen
trated compound of genuine Norway
pine extract, and "has been used for
generations to break severe coughs.
To avoid disappointment, ask your
druggist for “2% ounces of Pinex”
with full directions, and don't accept
anything else. Guaranteed to give
absolute satisfaction or money
promptly refunded. The Tioex Co.,
