Schuff, former mayor of the
.and senior member of the firm
f'Schuff and Sons, owners of the
mer house and the Schuff Cafe
terla, died here. Henry Schuff, jr.,
a junior in the University of Pennsy
lvania, arrived home an hour be
fore his father died and was urged
by him to complete his studies and
was advised that education Is of first
Importance.
Mr. Schuff entered business in
Orand Island in 1834 as restaurateur,
later buying the Palmer house and
also building the present Schuff
cafeteria and rooming hmia# in an
other section of the business district.
His sons. J^ester and Fred are' as
sociated with him in the management
of the two properties. He was elect
ed mayor in 1905 and was twice elect
ed, his administration being featured
by the lhauguratlon of paving in the
city and the establishment of muni
cipal lighting plant.
Ills wife and three sons survive him.

service and Agricultural Commission

two day tour of Inspection of the
North Platte valley reclamation pro
ject, In which the high spots were
two mass meetings, when the farmers
of the district told W'het they expect
ed of the government In the way of
old. Extension of time on payments
for the water charges was asked by
most of the farmers, who gave the
depressfcm of the past .year as the
reason for asking this. No one sug
■anted a cancellation of the charge*.

officials toured west from Bridgeport
then turned eouth on the way east
again to view the work on the tiering

Death Claims Second Victim
in Oil Can Explosion

Beatrice, Neb., May 26.—Death
claimed It* second victim In the oil
can explosion at the James I,ogan
! farm near Diller, when Mrs. Georg*
Logan, 25, died at a Beatric* hospital.;
The five month* old baby wa* burned
to death Friday. The husband,
George Logan, and his aged father,
Jamea Logan, widower, were working
near and threw a blanket over the wo
man, smothering the flames. Mrs.
I-ogan has a brother at Hoag, Her
parents are In California.
