Infantry Regiment in Recruiting Drive Old Seventeenth to Parade Downtown Streets to En courage Enlistment. The Seventeenth infantry, stationed fit Fort Crook and Fort Omaha, will parade tltrough downtown streets next week boosting tlies enlistment lampnlgn which has been opened for this historic regiment. Mayor Iiahltnan yesterday issued a proclamation to the young men of Omaha calling attention to the cam paign for recruits for the Seventeenth infantry. Ills proolanittlon says In part: "Our regular army of today is made up of tlie finest quality of manhood obtainable. Our povernm nt has spar ed no pains and has overlooked no op portunity to tiring up the standard of its soldiery, and the young man who avails himself of the privileges offered those whose lives are dedicated to the defense of the flag has considerably more than the reward of the con sciousness that he is doing his duty to his country. It served in Nebraska dur ing the lS40'a during the Indian up risings. The government now seeks to build up this regiment to the full strength of 1,200 men, as the per manent home of the regiment now will be the Omaha garrisons. One battalion and the headquarters of the regiment are at Fort Crook. The battalions are at Fort Omaha. Vocational training is offered the per sonnel of the regiment at both posts.
