More than 100 forged checki ar attributed to him. Half of theie, ac cording to Taylor, were qn blanki of the George Deeds Auto company, 2024 Farnam street, where Stover u .believed to have atolen them when buving an automobile. The checki began appearing early in 1921 and continued up to the pres ent time, according to the officers. whohive been looking for Stover all that time, shadowing the home of his father-in-law at 4017 Binney street. ' Stover is said to have told Detec tive Dolan that at one time he had $7,500 cash secured in this manner. Posed aa Dealer. When taken into custody, he is al leged to have told Taylor and Dolan that, if they would free him for 48 hours he w6uld return with $2,000 eaih to square up the deal. Sometimes Stover posed a dealer in motor cars, according to hit alleged confession to Dolan, and at one time obtained shipment of tires worth $29J4 from the Brunswick-Bslke-Collender company at Coon Rapids, la which was intercepted by detectives. Ha had but 7 in his possession when arrested, but told the officers, they allege, that that wis plenty, for h easily could get more. One of the methods he used ex-, tensively was to enter a retail store, order $$ to ISO worth of merchan dise, and offer a check larger than that in payment, pocketing the change. Held for Investigation. He is said to have assumed the nimes of Fred Klinger, Din Strayer and George Deeds during his clreer. The officers allege he told them he often used the proceeds of his pen manihip profession in gimes of chince, gimbling to increase the amount. Among the checks which he is said to have admitted passing include: T. L. Combs jewelry store, $135; Doug las Tire company, Sidney, la., $.185.ft7: Brunswick-Balke-Collender, Coon Rapids, la., $2,529. and 10 worthless notes given the McCaffrey Motor company when he traded in his old automobile for a new one. He is held for investigation. An Old warrant still stands against him, but officers said a new complaint would be filed. Wichita. Kan. June 21 Eight harvest hands dead and another dying is the toll taken by railroads operating in this vicinity within the past 24 hours. Three men were thrown or fell off a Santa Fe train five miles northeast ot Newton yesterday. A coroner's jury held that the men met death by (ailing from a fast moving train. Yesterday searcher found the mangled bodies of four youth strewn along the Santa Fe tracks south of Wichita for stretch of three mile Candidate to Use Radio Lincoln, Neb., June 21 Deputy Secretary of State William L. Gaston announced that he would broadcast ln campaign utterances by radio, beginning this week. Mr. Gaston seeks the republican nomination as secretary of state. They art alleged to have sold 'beneht certificates" in "common law trust." which, according to County Attorney Shotwell, is the same as sell'ig stock, and the men had no permit (ram the State depart, ment. F. M. Armstrong is out on bond in the case. Bartholomew is preident of the Cere Blend company, O'Keefe vice president, and Naylor secretary, ac cording to Shotwell. The firm was orgamted with capitalisation of $.'50,. 00(1, it is alleged, to manufacture new breakfast cereal to be known as Cere Blend. Burnham bought five shares for JSto. it ii charged, their rertiricates beuig signed by Bartholomew and Naylor March I. The penalty upon conviction of the charges is I to 10 sears in prison, according to Shot well, who said he will prosecute the rate personally. A report that he had invested hit life's savings in' the enterprise was described by Mr. Burnham as an exaggeration. Former Mayor Dies David City. June i (ipeeial ) The death of John Raimer Evans occurred in David City Sunday. He was formerly mayor of David City. He leaves his widow, a sister, Mrt R. B Sweenie of David City and a brother, V. M.
