Constable Murphy had an important duty to perform yesterday in ejecting Mr. John Griffin, saloon and household good., from tfic basement of the- Herald Hock. Mr. Griffin sought to retain the premises after the expiration of the time claimed that he had rented it, and he forced a suit for ejection, -which wa3 maintained by X. J. Bond & Co. Grif fin's goods were set out in the street yes terday noon, and they still remained there at a late hour this afternoon. Griffin seeks damages but we are of opinion his goods will "get damages" if they re main in the street many days and nights. From ri'tj$ ItiiH The IIkuai.d is very properly referred to as authority on most subject correc ted with the city and surrounding coun try ; but the latest thing in that line is referring to the list of advertisers to se lect a good, honest set of jurymen. While our advertises may nottlsfreto serve as jurymen, yet they must recog nize the compliment paid them by such means of ascertaining who arc likely to be competent to serra as jurymen. The test is a safe one, and we recommend its adoption all over the State. If you de sire a trustworthy jury men who have sufieient intelligence to comprehend a rminciss transaction, and sufficient Vrv- e.sty to decide in accordance with the principles of justice you are almost certain to get the right kind of men if you will consult the advertising columns of the IIkuai.d, or any other respectable journal. We no not pretend to say that no others are lit to be jurymen, but you are safe in taking such men as advertise liberally. We understand Mr. Woodman, Vicc PresiJcnt of the 15. & M. 11. II. Ii. in Nebraska, will leave the city in a few days for a visit to the Hub. Ho will take with him the kind regards of the people of this city an I all Southern Ne braska for hii energy in pushing hit road into the interior. The Hi::tAI.i office Is now turning out some as fine job work as can be procured ui tne tut. c have an order now out for a large quantity of the latest styles of Job Material and we propose to keep fully up to the demand of the times. L'ameron that there are a large number of persons at 1ns lornierhoine preparing to enii prate to Nebraska early in the spring, He has sent the Herald to them regu larly, and Irom it they are learning the true state of affairs in Nebraska. If you desire to advertise this portion of the footstool in a proper manner send copies of the weekly Hkrai.d to your friends in the cast. The readers ofthe IIkrat.d should re member the various places of amusement anil pleasure heretofore noticed for this evening; and while we are seoneious of the fact that each one of our readers can not be at all the different places, yet we hope none of them will fail to be on hand at some one of them. The Christmas Tree will he an excellent place lor parents an children, while the more "gav and fes tive" portion ofthe community will fin an excellent place for cnjoyniont at the Odd Fellows Sociable. u I VALL LIFE Y INSURANCE COMPANY. 3?.
