The April number of the Nebras
ka Farmer is before us, clean and
bright as one of those dollars
right from the mint. In turning ov
er its pages we find them filled with
timely and seasonable articles from
such writers as J. Sterling Morton,
Prof. Samuel Aughey, Lawrence
Bruner, C. H. Walker, R. W. Fur
nas, Prof. Culbertson, Dr. Mansfelde.
etc. We eeldom see such an array of
talent a3 this on an3T periodical and it
ought to guarantee the greatest pros
perity to the Farmer. It should be a
visitor to every home in Nebraska.
State Journal : A good man3 of
our State exchanges are grumbling
about Kansas receiving so man3 more
settlers this yoar than Nebraska. We
advise them not to be troubled. Noise
must not be taken for numbers. The
actual fact is, that the average num
ber of immigrants per da3 that cross
the Missouri to Nebraska is nearty if
not quite as great as that reported b3'
our Kansas friends, though notnearl3"
as man3T boasting dispatches are sent
to the eastern papers. And it is a fact
that the B. & M. R. R. Co. is selling
more land every month than an3'
Kansas compaii3 without sa3'ing
much about the matter to anytod3'.
Attorney General G. H. Roberts
was to have lectured in this city on
Tuesday evening of this week, but on
account of poor health could not be
with us. On Tuesda3' morning we
received .a dispatch from Gen. Roberts
saying he was sick and requesting
postponement for one week. We at
once gave notice to the public by
printed handbills, that the lecture wa6
postponed. The da3 being rainj and
ver37 disagreeable, the failure was no
great disappointment. A great man3'
tickets have been sold, and the Gen
eral ma3 be expected to be with us,
without fail, on Tuesda3 evening,
16th inst., when we hope to have
more agreeable weather.
The Fall3 City Journal in notic
ing the exhibition given b3r the Falls
City high school, thus highly com
pliments one of Brownville's fairest
young ladies and best singer: "The
singing b3' Miss Gates, of Brownville,
was particularly fine. Attherequest
of Mrs. Banks, she sang that sweet
old song, "AnnieLauri," in a man
ner at once pleasing and sorrowful.
The delicious intonations of her voice,
the p.er,fectafE of Imr time, her entire
grasp of the beaut3 and sentiment of
the song, together with her perfect
self command, and complete control
of the instrument, all manifested the
highest culture and the most thorough
training. All present were charmed
and delighted with her singing."

There is nothing else, that we can
think of now, more provoking to
publishers than to know that their

Nrilrwng more calculated to ruffle the
temper of a mild-mannered even tem

have frequently to encounter, and the
worst of it is, so far as we are concern
ed, the evil is without a remed3. Wo
