c (general Intelligence. THE PAOTEE ISTjIASS. ;rday last our usually quiet city was thrown into quite a furor of excitement by a report that some of tbc Pawnee Indians had come in collision with the whites, in the vici nity of the Pawnee camp, and that ona of the ; Indians was tilled. The Major General of the militia was immediately dispatched to the scene of action, hut, meeting Major Dennison, the newly appointed agent for the Pawnees, at Bcltevue, it is presumed that the services of tho militia will not be put in re luisition..' 1 It seems thatiha Indians have recently been very troublesome to the settlers in the vicinity of thc'iT village, tilling cattle, breaking into their horses, and threatening them with per sonal violence. On Saturday morning two or 'three Indians shot a cow belonging to .one of the whites, and when remonstrated with by the owner, one of them raised his gun to kill him. The settler was, however, too quick for the Indian, who was made to bite the dust . We trust that Major Dennison will report ia favor of mating a treaty with these pests, at ks early a day 03 possible,' and that they.' wj'l shortly be removed- Xebraskian. ..-' " Albam, llarch SO. Two sporting men cf this city, Taylor and Dal ton, started, on horses, from the Exchange this morning, at 5 o'clock, for one hundred mile race, without rest or feed. .The bets are $2,500 a-sidc. Whitesboro, Oneida county, is lb e termination of the race. The horses passed Fonda, forty-three miles fit 9:15 a. vl. Time, 4 hours 15 minutes. Palton horse slightly in advance. , They arrived at Little Falls, at 17 minutes past 12, the Dalton horse still a little ahead, but in kid coalition. Tho general impression I is that the Taylor horse will win the race. Albaxt, llarcb. SO 6 p. sr. Taylor, the New York horse, is thei winner of the one hundred mile race. . He arrived at Whitesboro at 5:30 p. il; mating the distance - in twelve hours and a half. The Albany, horse was a quarter cf a mile behind. ' ; -A New Oeleaks, April 1.
