It is seriously apprehended that "disturban ces" will commence again in a few months in Kat:sifi, between the Free Slate and Pro-slavery narlies. We had made up our mind that the country, at least for some time, would be free from the Slavery or Kansas agitation; but judging from the "signs of the times," we have reasou to be- l;vc aaolher war is portending. This is an unhappy an . calamitous condil'on ' fr our country, and more particularly for the United States. It is a serious and melancholy nlr, zu if the President has the power, the f;rit manifestation to renew these disturbances Ir cither party in any country, should be im mediately and thoroughly put down. If Pres ilent Tierce h id done his duty in time, there v.cu'.d not have been one fourth of the trouble ia that Territory, and now if Mr. Buchanan acts iththe same tardiness in this matter, we may look for a repetition of analogous troubles. Kansas and Nebraska stand upon the same fjusda'.ion, both being organized by the same a.t, aud and at the same time. Said "Organic Act" gives each Territory the right to regulate its own domestic affairs without the interrcn t'.onof Cyvgr; presuming that the inhabitants of Stales, or Territories, are competent to gov cn themselves and to know their wants best. i VC n lw'lipvp fliwtr lirt a frrnrt fitiil crmr-it linn. , - i vipv, ti -tw-i(j( iv4 iiiai tllij vuaiil.vv m. it ra.iy be abused, and we doubt not, but what it li3 bf en wofully abused in Kansas. When it becomes necessary to er.force a doctrine, or jrincijjle, in a republican land, by the imple ments of war, we cannot, we trill not give our a&jc:.t to such a doctrine, regardless of the par ty, or parties promulgating it. Every citizen and voter from every section of the Union, is iiivitel to Kansas and Nebraska, and a voice is f rom'sed them by tho "Organic Act4' in the adoption of domestic laws, and tho regulation cf all matters pertaining to their interest and we'.fjTa, Yt'heu a barrier in any shape what ever, is crectod against the operation of this ob ject, we nre as bitterly and as sentimentally op posed to it, as ary one else. So far the prin ciple has worked "like a charm" in Nebraska, nnd it is to be hoped, by all rational and good oitizci.s, that it may never work otherwise. It is universally almitted, that Nebraska will be come a free State; although, our own county is filled bv a lar number of citizens from ilave States, we do not know of one who de :res the introduction cf the Ethiopian race, bead or free into the Territory. The i letter written by from its present location to following U an extract from i a resident f Nebraska Cit undef date Jan. 18th, 1337, , Irora Umaha, during tho pend- ancyof the "Capitol Bill," to the North Western Democrat ', signed "C. F. II." "The place to which the Capitol is to be re moved is near Salt Creek immediately West of Nebraska City, at aa cmbro ycleped Doug las City, about U) miles from the River, l's location there will jive the finishing touch to that rising metropolis. It will pack the country Wcatwiih dense settlements, who will draw their supplies from Nebraska City, and it will be virtually locating the Capitol at that place." How do jou like it, citizens of Brownville and Nemaha county! Does it look much like running "a Daily line of Mail Coaches from Brownville to Douglas." It is simply an admission of what every one, acquainted with the facts in the premises, hums. Certainly it would "give tho Gnishing touch to that rising metropolis," and would be nothing else than "virtually locating the Capitol at Ne braska City.", Thus you see w hy the e was such a "deep interest felt in behalf of Brown ville and Nemaha County" by our "Sister City" in Otoe 6uch an interest ts to warrant the expenditure of a "Dollar or two," in con vincing our people that the "Nemaha Delega tion ought to bo whipped into the traces or resign." We do not copy the above, neither do we write, in any spirit of bitterness or complaint toward Nebraska City or her people ; but to let the people in this placo and County know that it was cot the "interest felt in our behalf" that induced our neighbors to labor with such zeal as that manifested during the agitation of the Capitol Bill it was all jol de rot, so far as being a benefit to our place or county was con cerned, and right well they knew it. For their zeal, and untireing energy, we give them credit. and cite to their example in this respect, as one worthv of imitation. WILL OTJE CITY PE0SPE21 Wo ask the question, will our city giowlo be a great Metropolis and that too without the least assistance ? Did you ever know a case of this kind ? There is no point in Nebraska Territory with more providential advantages than the city of Brownvillc, and all that is ro quired is some aid to cause her to take a stand alorgsidethe bestof towns or cities in the West, But, unless those who boast of their fifty and one hundred "City Lots," do something in the way of improving or sell to persons who are anxious and willing to buy at, fair ratesi no one can reasonably expect to see a place of any importance at this point Wo speak the sentiments of every sensible man. Gentlemen these are facts you cannot deny them and as long ns our city prcpcrty is held by men at home and abroad who will not improve norstl on reasonable terms to settlers, so long will we remain behind, far behind the progress of other points iu the Territory. We will continue to honor you Gents with an occasional pufl", unti you do something sell out or improve. 2I0VIXO. Through the medium of our eastern Ex changes, and corresiondence, we are iu receipt of reliable data, that the coming season wil be un equaled in the amount of emigrants for the West; that in some instances entire neigh borhoods are readv and anxiousdr wailing to "take up the lino of march" for their new homes. The incentives to a change of residence or emigration are many ; every individual cmi grant he or she has some peculiar idolized ob ject in view in leaving the land of their tinttrilT All mrroA 1iot fit a i tie-nol nrnl " r .1 i 1 , , . prominent of these is the nope and desire that 1 with a change of homes their may come aj charge in "worldly affairs," and instead of draging out their live long davs in want and misery, they may find and enjoy a portion of that independence which is the result of a reasonable sharS of tho "good things of this e." Another desideratum, of t o less mag nitude, induces thousands to undemo the heart-crushing anguish of a "last and fond adieu" to the "old homestead," "be it ever so liumble"; viz: a reslordion of health. A few words by way of advice for all who have made up their minds to try their for tunes in new countries ; and in the first placo when arriving at the point for 'which you started, do not become discouraged or dissatis fied becauso you are deprived of many little comforts ar.dconvcnicncics, and forced to en dure many hardships incident to the settlement of new countries. Prepare your, minds to meet with "hard knocks" for a season; and our opinion for it, many who are row victims to disease, incurable disease, will find these "knocks" highly efficacious in restoring to health life and vitror. There is no remedy in the whole range of medical discovery ancient or modern equal to the healing and health invigo rating virtues of a residence where the system receives daily a few such "knocks." To all who desire to find homes in a new country possessing a climate without an equal in point of health, and a 601I matchless in richness and fertility, we say ccine to Nebras ka. If you wish to avoid strife and live in a land where you may exercise tbe right of speech without fear of molestation or punish ment we advice vou br all means to "pitch ... your tent" in Nebraska. We have no dis- turuauccs ncre on tne suijcct o. navery pi .1 y ' a r 1 any, otner suoject; auaouga our population is composed of persons from almost every State in the Union, a perfect good feeling-prevails; a Southerner and a Northerner join hands, neighbor with each other, worship together, drawing no line of distinction but living and 'moving along"' as a "band of brothers. This is as it should be; not only in Nebraska but in every S:ate or Territory in the United States. We again say, if health, wealth, happiness and peace bo your object in emigrating to tho West, let rcmr ''lots be cast" in the healthy and beautiful Territory of Nebraska. J St. Louis and St. Joseph merchants and niir.nfactnrcs, can find no better advertising j medium than the "Advertiser," which has hr f , i . . . , ,l. r ULEAD CAST IEZ WATTS" A arw agest. We have mado it a practice, whenever go ing from homo, to fill our pockets with "Ad vertisers" and proipectases therefor. Last Sum mer "thus armed and equiped" we spent a number cf day out oa the prairie "nay West beyond wlicro any body lives." 50 or GO miles at least from any human habitation, where two Indian' trails crossed each other, some boJy had stuck up a "flag stake." As we rcde past, thu idea struck us, that we'd establish an ageacy at this point, knowing that considerable importance Las always been attached to "cross-roads." According'y we rod back, alighted from our mule, and with pencil, wroto on the margin of an Adver ser," "take, read and subscribe," and with a strip torn fromthe ragflag, tied the paper to the st.ke. Bidding our new agent "good day," and wish ing bim success, went oa our way. We had quite forgotten the circumstance until a few weeks since, we rsceived two dollars enclosed ia a letter from a gentleman residing in the northern part oflowa, stateingthat he had been ou a "look at tliu country" through Nebraska last fall, and found a copy of the "Advertiser" tied to a stake on the prairie" as described, and "being pleased with the paper, and struck with the novelty of tho agency, determined to subscribe" and accordingly sent us two dol- ars. This is a practical demonstration of "casting bread upon the water," cvc. CB1NESE SUGAE CANE. ' Tust nove, every Agricultural paper we peruse, is filled with articles upon This subject. Where it has been tested, it has been found to be valuable for its Sacharice qualities; for stock, both seed and stalkB. We copy to-day an article on the planting, cultivating and har vesting of this ne w plant. Next week vc will copy another article oa this subject, from Hon. Cuas. Masoji, Commissioner of Patents, giving an account of the origin of the Chinese Sugar Cane; its introduction into this Country, and accounts of experiments, in various por tions of tho Uted States. Some of it was cultivated in this Territory last year, and found to do well; We planted a few seeds of it in cur garden latt year, which did well, and matured long before frost, some of the stalks attained the cnorraons height of 16 feet 3 inches. We hope the enterprising Farmers of Nemaha county will test its qualities thorough ly this year. We have a limited supply of seed which we will distribute gratuitously to to Farmers of this county, who will experi ment thoroughly with it and report the result for the 'Advertiser' columns next fall. Trotting Match Good Time. The spotting men of this vicinity have had on foot for a few davs a trotting match, or race (we are not familiar w ith the phrases of tho Turf) against time, viz: a bet of $ 0 that a horse, owned by a Farmer of this county Mr.' Bu ciianan, would trot, in harness, a mile inside of 4 miuutes. Tho trotting came of on Tues day last. Time 3 min. 24 sec. Taking every. thing into consideration cold weather frozen ground and no prepared track just on the rough prairie pod tho time is called cxtraordi narily good. The knowing ones think the circumstances were about one minute against the horse, in the distance; in other words that ho can with a fair show trot a mile in 2.24. Those rr-ore familiar with such sport can form a better opinion than we upoa the subject. The following we copy from Porter's Spirit rf the Times, as the fastest time ever made. By a running horse was by II. Pent, a mile m 1A2 ; and the fastest mile made by a pacer was bv Pochr.hontas, in 2.17,l; and the fastest mile ever made in trotting, was by Flora Tern pl, in harness, ia 2.2 There has boen some unnecessary flutter irv as the effects of our article two weeks ago. in regard to tho petitions sent from this County, ... 0 ,, , , ! We supposed it was generally known to whom we particularly referred, by a train of existing circumstances which are known to those who keep an eye on passing events ; and we say here, that wo hud not in our mind's eye when writing, the. gentlemen who was directly our oMXincnt last fall. So far 03 he and oursclf were concerned, thero was nothing serious bo tween us, nor have wo known or heard of any thing to tho contrary since. Look oct fou Them. Capt.
