Oberleutnant Warren Harries, der Sohn des Generals Geo- Harries, der früher in Omaha ansässig war. ist in einer französischen Provinzstadt wo -ex stationiert war, bei einem Au tounsall am 25. Juli getötet worden, wie eine Depesche aus Paris meldet. Leutnant Harries war hier gut be konnt. Sein Vater ist Präsident der Nebraska Power Eo. Macht Selbstmordversuch. ' Frau Al White, die Gattin eines Soldaten, machte am Montag früh um 4 Uhr in ihrer Wohnung in den Manuel Apartements an der 21 und Howard Straße einen Selbst Mordversuch, indem sie Gift zu sich nahm. Man brachte sie nach dem Lord Listcr Hospital, wo verlailte. te, daß es möglich sei, sie am Leben zu erhalten. Freundinnen der Frau White sagen, daß sie die ganze Nacht geweint habe, ehe sie das Eist nahm. An der 24. und Leavenworth Straße wurde das Motorrad von einem Au to umgerannt und die Insassen auf die Straße geschleudert. Das Auto verschwand schleunigst. Herr und Frau Clem Halstead von Blair, Nebr.. erhielten gestern die Nachricht, daß ihr Sohn Not? G. Malstead. 25 Jahre alt, am 12. Ju ni in Frankreich gefallen ist. Er trat am 30. Juli 1917 in Portland. Ore., m das Marinckorps ein und wurde nach Camp Freemont, Cal., gesandt. Washington, 27. Juli. General stabschcf March machte heute be kannt, daß amerikanische Streitkräf te, die in Frankreich ausgebildet wurden, Italien erreicht haben. Gleichzeitig machte er bekannt, daß zwei weitere amerikanische Armee corps daS vierte und fünfte in Frankreich gebildet worden find. Die Linien dcr Alliierten sind, in der gegenwärtigen Offensive von 74 auf 64 Meilen reduziert worden. Die Teutschen, welche früher 28 Meilen von Paris standen, sind jetzt 49 Meilen von der französischen Lan deshauptstadt entfernt. Das soeben gebildete vierte Armee corps steht unter dem Befehl des Generals Need und besteht auö der 83.. 80., 87., 29., 90. und 92. Di Vision (letztere setzt sich aus Farbi gen zusammen) Das 6. Armeccorps besteht aus der 6., 36.. 76.. 79., 85. und 91. Division. Gegenwärtig stehen 1,253.000 Amerikaner in Frankreich. Diese Nachricht ließ Generalstabschef March den Senatskomitee.Mitgliedcrn für Militärangclegenhcitcn zukommen, Hieraus geht hervor, daß während der letzten Woche 53,000 Mann über see geschickt wurden, fast 40.000 Mann wenigcr, wie in der Woche vorher. Dieses ist darauf zurückzil' führen, daß man mehr Nahrungs. Mittel und Kriegsmaterial nach Frankreich und England sandte. Die 32. Division (Michigan und Wisconsin) befindet sich gegenwärtig in einem ruhigen Abschnitt in den Vogesen. Die amerikanischen Divisionen an der französisch-amerikanischen Offen sive verbleiben dieselben wie ehe dem. Temporär werden die fünf amen konischen Armeekorps von folgenden Generälen befehligt: 1. Armeekorps, Gen. Liggett: 2. Gcn. Vullard; 3. Gen. Wright; 4. General Need; 5. Gen. Vundy. - Ueber die taktische Lage auf dem Kriegsschauplatz sagte Gen. March, daß Epicds mehrere Male den Ve sitzer gewechselt hatte, aber schließ lich in Händen dcr Amerikaner vcr. blieb. Der dortige Vormarsch wur de nur temporär aufgehalten. Die südlich von Soissons gezogene Linie ist immer noch in derselben Lage, wie letzten Mittwoch, als dcr General sich über diö Lage äußerte. Die Deutschen haben gegen die Ame rikaner mehrere Gcgenangrifse ge macht. Die Briten haben gegen die linke Flanke des Feindes mit Er folg operiert und sind an einer Front von vier Meilen oiiderthalb Meilen weit vorgedrungen. Dadurch ist der Feind cm diesem Punkt in eine ge fährliche Lage geraten, und die Franzosen haben in jener Gegend bereits den Vormarsch angetreten. Das von den Amerikanern jetzt besetzte Territorium ist nunmehr grö ßer, als jenes, das der Feind im Frühjahr in Flandern gewonnen hat te. Die amerikanische Linie liegt heute drei und eine halbe Meile von FereeN'Tardenois, das anhaltend beschossen wird entfernt. Glaubt, es ist die Entscheidungsschlacht Amsterdam, 27. Juli. Haupt mann Salzmann schreibt in der Vos fischen Zeitung, daß die gegenwärtige Schlacht entscheidend fein und das Resultat derselben davon abhängen wird, welche Seite die meisten Rcser vcn zur Verfügung haben wird. Mooney, dcr wegen des Dynamitattcntats auf die Prc paradneß.Parade zum Tode verur teilt wurde, einen Strafaufschub bis zum 13. Dezember, Stcphcns gab folgende Erklärung ab: Ich habe mich entschlossen, Tho mas Mooney einen Strafausschub zu gewähren, wodurch seine Hinrichtung bis zum 13. Dezember verschoben wird. ..Es ist wahr, daß dcr Mooney Fall sich immer noch im Obcrgcricht von Californien befindet, aber ich tue dies zu dieser Zeit, damit ' alle Leute in diesem Staat und überall in den Vcr. Staaten sicher sind, daß dem Falle von dem Ezekutivzweige, wie von dem Gerichtszweige des Staates California volle Erwägung zuteil wird.
