Rev. Julius B. Brooks, Qujnr
Chapel pastor, his wife and four
children.
Rev. Brooks, who has served the
Lincoln church, left early Thurs
day morning for Sacramento,
Calif., where he will be pastor
of the First AME Church.
Paying tribute to Rev. Brooks,
besides his congregation, were
ministers from three Lincoln
churches: Rev. William I. Monroe,
Mt. Zion Baptist; Rev. R. G. Na
than, Newman Methodist; and
Rev. Trago McWilliams, Christ
Temple.
“We have found Rev. Brooks a
man of unsurpassed worth,” said
Rev. McWilliams. “He has not
only made a material but a spir
itual contribution to Quinn Cha
pel, Lincoln and the world.”
Noting that Rev. Brooks is a
man called to by God to preach
to the world, Rev. Nathan said,

for the luncheon following the re-!
ception included the ladies of the
steward board and presidents of
the church auxiliaries.

Scalloped Apples and Cabbage
4 cups- sliced apples
4 cups shredded cabbage
[ S tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon salt
t cup buttered soft bread crumbs
4 slices bacon
Wash, core and slice tart applesi
without peling. In a buttered bak-J
ing dish, place half the apples
and sprinkle with half the sugar.
Add half the cabbage and salt,'
then continue with apples ami
cabbage. Top with buttered bread
crumbs. Bake uncovered in a
moderate oven, 350 degrees F, for
about 35 minutes. After 15 min
utes of baking, place slices of
bacon over the top to cook until
crisp.

Chocolate Mint Mallow Sauce
8 marshmallows (2 oz.) quartered
Vi cup chocolate flavored syrup
1 tablespoon water
% teaspoon peppermint extract
Put marshmallows in top of
double boiler. Add water and cook
over boiling water, stirring fre
quently until marshmallows are
melted. Cool. Add chocolate
syrup, -birring constantly. When
well blended, add peppermint ex
tract and mix well. Delicious
served over ice cream. Makes
about *% cup.
