Malone, president; Miss Mary Sampson, vice president; Mrs. Evelyn Irving, secretary; Mrs. Mary Scott, treasurer. Mrs. Irving and Mrs. Scott are serving two consecutive terms. The Guild is planning a get acquainted pro gram for their next meeting to be held October 12, 1950. They will have their Annual Tea Sunday, October 22, 1950 at the Urban League, 4-6 p.m. Mrs. Ageneese Adams, retiring president, report ing. * * * Ted King, 16 year old sopho more at Lincoln high school, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd S. Ted attended Whittier Junior high school where he started his sports achievements. His eye was set on track at the time. He won 3 ribbons in the 7th grade, 4 in the 8th and 5 in the 9th, all being a part of Health Day, an annual feature of Whittier Junior high school. The Links are scheduled to meet Northeast high Friday night. * * * Mrs. Stella Davis left Monday night, October 2, for Kansas City Traveling Singer** at Newman Church Sunday The Traveling Singers of Phi lander Smith college at Little Rock. Ark., presented a concert at 4 o’clock Sunday afternoon at Newman Methodist church. The program included Negro spirituals, gospel songs, secular and popular selections. Breakfast and dinner were served the group by members of Newman. where she will spend several days at the bedside of a relative who is very ill. * * * Motoring to Grand Island, Ne braska, Sunday were the Rev. and Mrs. R. H. Powell and then daughter, Freddie. They were accompanied by James Adkins. Freddie spent the week-end in Lincoln and returned to Omaha Monday. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Botts and daughter Joan and Richard Holcomb motored to Sioux City, Iowa, Saturday, Sept. 23rd, to at tend the Lincoln High-Sioux City football game. * * * Mr. and Mrs. George Alexander, Richard and Beverly Holcomb and Joyce Williams motored to Omaha, Nebraska, Thursday. Pickled Lilly Chop very fine 1 peck green tomatoes 2 small heads cabbage 3 green peppers 4 onions fi large cucumbers Put all in large stone jar and sprinkle with 1 cup salt. Let stand over night. Next day drain and scald in 1 quart vinegar and 2 quarts water. Take out with skimmer, 'drain in sieve. Make a syrup of 3 quarts vinegar, 4 pounds brown sugar. Let boil to gether 30 minutes. Put- up in pint jars. It will keep indefinitely. Mrs. Lillian Miller 2251 South 8th Street Molasses Cookies 1 34 cup flour 34 cup molasses 34 cup sugar 1 teaspoon baking powder 34 cup shortening 2 eggs Vi teaspoon baking soda —dissolved in 1 tablespoon hot coffee 1 teaspoon cinnamon 34 teaspoon salt 34 cup milk Beat thoroughly and drop by teaspoon two inches apart on bake sheet. Bake in oven 350 degrees. Mrs. Ida Belle McWilliams 2015 U Street Sour Cream Raisin Pie % package pastry mix 1 egg 1 cup sour cream 1 tablespoon white vinegar % cup sugar 2 tablespoons flour 34 teaspoon cinnamon or allspice 34 teaspoon nutmeg 34 teaspoon salt 2 cups seedless raisins Following directions on pack age, make dough for single 8-inch pie shell; roll out and fit into pan. Beat egg slightly, add cream -——— -i | and vinegar, blend. Add remain ing ingredients. Mix well. Pour into pie shell. Bake in very hot oven, 450° F., for ten minutes, then reduce heat to moderate, 350° F., and bake 30-35 minutes longer, or until crust is brown Serve slightly warm. Sweet-Potato Pie Flaky pastry About 4 cooked medium sweet po tatoes 3 eggs H cup granulated sugar Vi teaspoon nutmeg % teaspoon cinnamon - V4 teaspoon salt V4 teaspoon lemon flavoring 1V4 cups milk or % cup evaporated milk and % cup water V4 cup melted butter or margarine Heat oven to 400° F. (moder ately hot). Line a 9-inch pie plate with homemade or packaged pastry; make a fluted edge. Mash potatoes well; then measure IVj cups. Beat eggs until light; then add sugar and next 5 ingredients; beat with an egg beater until smooth. Add butter and mashed potatoes; beat well with egg beater. Pour into unbaked pie shell; bake at 400° F. 45 minutes, or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Make one 9-inch pie. Tenn. to Admit Negroes To Graduate Courses NASHVILLE, Tenn. (ANP). The state of Tennessee yielded to de mocracy last week and acted to admit Negroes to the University of Tennessee in professional courses. This action came as a result of a ruling by State Atty. Gen. Roy H. Beeler who approved the ad mission of three Negroes to the school. He commented that “strife and toil” will follow his act. W. F.
