Fire in the
Erazim Heme
_
A very mysterious fire develop
I ed in the basement of the Anton
Erazim home in this city, Monday
evening, shortly after six o’clock.
A fire alarm was sent in but the
was extinguished by members of
the family before serious damage
had been done and before the hose
company could reach the place
The fire developed in a barrel con
taining a half dozen pieces of
cured meat — bacon and ham.
There had been no fire of any
in the barrel, the meat was simply
stored therein, and a loose cover
covered the top, which would
seem to preclude the possibility
of a fire gaining any headway to
in it but for all that the barrel
was pretty well consumed by the
fire before it was extinguished.
The only theor.v on which the fire
can be accounted for is spontane
ous combustion, but those who
have had the most experience in
handling cured meats declare they
never heard of spontaneous com
bustion developing under such
conditions.-Ravenna News.*
The Christmas Thought.
Ideas on Christmas giving are
rapidly changing among the sen
sible. Those who think as they
give are looking for a year-round
service as the important thing.
In a week of shopping, with all
its strain, you will not find a bet
ter gift than a year’s subscription
to the Youth's Companion. It of
fers it^,service, its clean enter
tainment, its fine suggestiveness
week after week: and the end of
the year, which finds many a gift
in the attic, dust-covered and for
gotten, brings The Companion
again, with all the charm of last
Christmastide.
No American monthly at any
price offers the same amount of
reading, and none can offer better
quality. Less than four cents a
weeks provides this best of Christ
mas gifts—$2.00 a year. If you
snbscribe now all remaining issues
of the year will be sent free, and
the The Companion Home Calen
dar. A copy of the Calendar is
also sent to those who make a gift
subscription. Send for sample
copies and the Forcast for 1915.
