Now, honestly, brothers, what
do you think of of the present
primary? The Phonograph be
lieves it is a farce pure and sim
ple, and is not afraid to say so.
We hope some man will have
nerve to get up in the next legis
lature and denounce the present
primary and then introduce a
bill to repeal the law. The old
covention system was bad
enough, but it had the present
primary plan skinned a mile.
Look at the cost the August
primary will entail on the tax
payers of this state. Several hun
dred thousand dollars will be
spent for the primary election and
what will we receive in return ?
Will we nominate a better grade
of officers? The Phonograph be
lieves not. In the selection of
state officers there will be namoc
on the ticket that seventy-five per
cent of the voters never heard of
and yet the voter will be request
ed to cast an intelligent ballot.
The voters of the state cannot
possible inform themselves re
garding the different men who
aspire to fill the state offices. The
primary plan may be all right as
far as a county is concerned, but
that is as large as the unit should
be. We hope to see the primary
system repealed at the next ses
sion of the legislature.—St. Paul
Phonograph.
