George Slote of Litchfield was a ! Loup City visitor last Sunday. Miss Verna W illiams, grand daughter of Mrs. Komrumpf, who i had lieen working at the city laundry, lett Saturday morning for Council Bluffs, called there by the illness of her mother, who had or was about to undergo an operation of some kind. Wichman of Scotia, who has charge of the excursions from these parts to Texas, took another party from Boelus and vicinity Tuesday of this week. Friend Wichman is a hustler along that line and taken at least a dozen ex cursion parties down into that country the past few months. Mrs. Curry, sister of E. G. Taylor, who was here from Kan sas City last week visiting him, returned home last Saturday, stop ping a few days in St. Paul to visit her parents. Mrs. Taylor and Lucille accompanied her to St. Paul for a short visit. Frank Amick. who had been at ■ El Paso, Texas, for the past 18 months, and who had been quite | ill for some time in that country, ; returned home hist Thursday con valescing, but it will be several weeks before his recovery will be complete. We received a pleasant call last Thursday from Mr. Chas. H. Bacus of Litchfield who took oc casion to secure a year’s visits of the Northwestern to his home. Bert Travis, our popular pro prietor of the Ten Cent store, has traded property in Aurora to L. L. Mendenhall for the latter’s new cement residence in the south east part of the city, and expects to move into his new home about the first of next month. Mr. Men denhall moves back to Aurora. Rev. Elmer Wagner, pastor of the United Brethren church at Litchfield, and brother of Mrs. Ward Yer Valin of this city, preached at the Presbyterian church in this city last Sunday evening. Rev. Wagner has made many friends here on former vis its and who were glad to greet him once more. Mary Ann Fogarty, from the “Im i era! Isle.” always brings down the house. Mathew was taken to Chicago by a nurse where the little one will have an operation for a cleft pal ate by an eminent specialist in that city. It was expected the operation would be the first of this week and that the nurse and baby would be home within a couple of weeks. Mrs. John Golus, who was taken to Grand Island last week Tuesday noon to be operated on for tumor in the abdomen, under went the op*eration the following Wednesday, but failed to recover and her death followed on Mon day of tins week, the body being brought home that evening. Smith of Greenfield, Ills., who was here assisting in the meetings at the Baptist church, returned home during last week. He had come to look over the field with the i»ossibilit.v of be coming pastor of the local Baptist church. He was not offered or did not accepts the pastorate. The protracted services at that church will close with this week. Three were baptised at the close of last Sunday morning's services. President Long and Secretary Waite of the court house commit tee with the entire county board of supervisors went to Seward last Friday to inspect the new court house.
