Our Masonic friends did work in the
third degree last Thursday evening,
ending up with one of those neat little
suppers the Eastern Star ladies know’
so well how to prepare. There were
several visiting Masons from Arcadia.

Dr. J. II. Long read a rai*er on Hygiene
before the Teacher’s Institute, Tuesday
morning. It was very interesting and
well received by the officers and teach
ers. He was followed by Dr. S. A.
Allen in a brief address.

Charley Gibson was over from Litch
lield last Saturday receiving the con
gratulations of his many friends over
his recent appointment as postmaster

ceived bis commission and was to have

The well known Grand Island Uusi
ness & Normal College of Grand Island
Neb., has just announced that 250 more
young men and 250 more young women
will be admitted to the College this
year and that no payment whatever
will be required for school expenses
until the pnpils have time to graduate.
They will then t>e placed in positions m
banks and business offices and allowed
to pay the College a small amount
monthly until the bill is settled. This
certainly is a grand opportunity and
those interested should write for their
circulars. This College has been estab
lished twenty years and is one of the
biggest and mo«t substantial scho< Is of
its class in the United States.

We received a pleasant call last Fri
day, from Mr. I. W. Carpenter, of the
Carpenter Paper Co., of Omaha. Mr.
Carpenter was here to meet his brother,
Mr. Will Carpenter, who is ou his wav
overlaud to the Yellowstone Park by
team, on account of poor health, and
thinking “roughing” it would be of
much benefit.
R. J. Nightingale and family expect
10 leave for the mountains next week
Tuesday. They will visit Denver, Colo
rado Springs. Manitou, Pike’s Peak and
other interesting point. Mr. Nightin
gale will find a cozy place in the moun
tains where he will leave his family for
a month’s outing, himself returning
home 10 business in a couple of weeks.

Yesterday afternoon Peter Rowe fell
from a scaffold while building a
chimney, fracturing his shoulder blade
Bishop Isaac W. .Toice, the greatest
j bishob of the Methodist Episcopal
I church, died last Friday morning at his
home in Minneapolis, Minn.
Prof. Searson one of the instructors
in our county teachers' institute, gave a
very interesting and instructive lecture
on “Almost a Man,” at the opera house*
last evening to a large and appreciative
audience.
We received a pleasant call Tuesday,
from our young friend, Joe Contor. of
east Sherman. Joe has moved to Ash
ton and taken a position in Stanislaw
Coe’s saloon. Joe’s brother will handle
the farm in Joe’s place.
T S. Nightingale is concluding his
business here as fast as possible and
hopes to be ready with his family to
leave for the Pacific Coast about the
middle of September. Mr. Nightingale
has not settled upon anv location
definitely, but will take a leisurely
jaunt through the Pacific Coast states
till he finds just what suits him from!

The Epwortli League met at the
home of J. P. Leininger, Monday even
ing and enjoyed a very pleasant musical
and literary program as follows: Instru
mental selection by Mrs. Geo. Leininger,
reading by Miss Edna Minshull: instru
mental solo by Misses Meroe and Emma
Outhouse; baritone solo by Charles
Leininger; vocai selection, Miss Coral
Leininger. bruit was served, vfter
which games were played. Misses
Harriet Hayhurst and Jessie Leininger
were elected to represent the League at
the district convention to be held at
Ansley, next week.
We ;ire indebted to F. M. Henry of
the Ravenna Creamery Co. for a fine
sample of their creamery butter pre
sented to this ollice last Saturday. The
Ravenna Creamery company have a
large and increasing number of farmers
m this county who daily furnish them
cream and thousands of dollars are
thus yearly earning into the hand* of |
our dairyman and farmers generally
from this excellent company. We
would advise our farmer farmer friends
to call and see Mr. Henry at the
creamery building and talk “shop” with
him and with profit to themselves
M rs. Win. Brown and daughter, Miss !
Ethel, entertained a few young ladies
at the Brown farm, last Monday after
noon, in honor of Miss Edna West, of
Boston, Mass. One of the main features
of entertainment was pencil drawing,
each one present being required to draw
a picture of some one in the party. The
first prize, a handsome vase, was award
ed to Miss Lela Gee. and the booby
prize, a tooth-pick holder, was given to
Miss Reynard. Refreshments were
served in picnic style under the trees,
the waiters being dressed in Chinese
costume. All in all a very merry time
was had by all.

again. lie received a telegram from
Cody, Wyoming, Sunday evening last
that a cherub bad been bom to his tirst
born daughter, Mrs. G. A. Phipps, that
morning, but the happy father in wir
ing in the important event was too
excited to say whether bov or girl,
hence will have to wait the receipt of a
letter to learn whether it is a future
president or a future president’s better
half. But the best part of the message
was that mother and babe were O. K.
Just notice our expansive smile over it
all. Later- Letter received. It's a boy<
and handsome, like it’s grandpa.
Grand Island will have a Grand
Harvest Jubilee on August 14,15, H, 17 .
18 and 19, inclusive. That city is noted
for doing things on a big scale and the
proposed jubilee this year promises to
be the biggest thing ever held there.
The G. W. Parker Amusement Com
pany ha§ been secured for a nigh class
of entertiinments, There will be ten
big shows, three free shows, two first
class bands, and in fact amusements
galore every day. August 10 has been
designated as “Old and Loup City
Day,” and Loup City should and un
doubtedly will send down a big dele
gation on that day. Let there be a big
crowd go down to Grand Island and
whoop it up for the Loup City Carnival
and in return Grand Island will send
up a bigger delegation when our Big
Carnival Jubilee comes off.

Lewis and Clak k Centennial, which is a
complete guidi to Portland, the Exposi
tion and the Pacific Northwest generaly

reach the Exposition city, what is to be

Legal Notice of the Incorpo
ration of the Ashton Lum
ber Company.
Notice is hereby given that the Ashton
Lumber Company has adopted articles of in
corporation. and tiled said articles for record
in the office of the County Clerk of Sherman
County, Nebraska, and In tbe office of the
Secretary of State of Nebraska, and that such
articles provide as follows:
Article 1. The name of said corporation
is The Ashton Lumber Company.
Article 2. The principal place of transact
ing the business of said corporation shall be at
Ashton, in Sherman County, Nebraska.
Article 3. The general nature of the busi
ness to be transacted by said corporation shall
be, to buy and sell lumber and all kinds of
building material, including stone, brick, lime,
hair, cement and glass and other material
connected with such business, and to own and
operate a retail lumber yard and lumber busi
ness; also to buy and sell coal, and to own and
operate a retail coalyard and coal business;
to buy and sell hardware, and to own and
operate a retail hardware store and business;
also to buy and sell agricultural implements
of all kinds, and to own and operate a retail
implement business. Said corporation shall
have power to buy, sell, hold, own and lease
such real estate as may be necessary or
convenient for the transaction of said lumber,
coal, hardware and implement business.
article t. The amount of the authorized
capital stock of said corporation shall be Fifty
Thousand Dollars, divided into shares of one
hundred dollars each; of which amount Five
Thousand dollars shall be subscribed and paid
in at or before the commencement of business.
The remaining portion of said capital stock
shall be subscribed and issued at such times
and in such amounts as the Board of Directors
shall determine. All of said stock shall be
fully paid up, when issued and non-assessable.
Article 5. Said corporation shall begin to
exist on the tirst day of August, 1905, and shall
continue to exist until the first day cf August,

Article (1. The highest amount of indebted
ness or liability to which said corporation
shall snbject itself at any one time, shall be
two-thirds only of the actual paid in capital
stock.
Article T. The affairs of said corporation
shall be conducted by a Board of Directors,
who shall consist of three members, and who
shall have the general management and
control of its business and property. The
other officers of said corporation shall be a
President, Secretary and Treasurer, who shall
exercise such powers and perform such duties
as usually devolve upon such officers, and such
additional powers and duties as may be pro
vided by the by-laws of said corporation. All
of said officers shall be elected by the stock
holders.

corporation this 3rd day of August, 1905.
