The well known Grand Island Uusi ness & Normal College of Grand Island Neb., has just announced that 250 more young men and 250 more young women will be admitted to the College this year and that no payment whatever will be required for school expenses until the pnpils have time to graduate. They will then t>e placed in positions m banks and business offices and allowed to pay the College a small amount monthly until the bill is settled. This certainly is a grand opportunity and those interested should write for their circulars. Prof. Searson one of the instructors in our county teachers' institute, gave a very interesting and instructive lecture on “Almost a Man,” at the opera house* last evening to a large and appreciative audience. We received a pleasant call Tuesday, from our young friend, Joe Contor. of east Sherman. Joe has moved to Ash ton and taken a position in Stanislaw Coe’s saloon. Joe’s brother will handle the farm in Joe’s place. T S. Nightingale is concluding his business here as fast as possible and hopes to be ready with his family to leave for the Pacific Coast about the middle of September. Mr. Nightingale has not settled upon anv location definitely, but will take a leisurely jaunt through the Pacific Coast states till he finds just what suits him from! all points of view. Ethel, entertained a few young ladies at the Brown farm, last Monday after noon, in honor of Miss Edna West, of Boston, Mass. One of the main features of entertainment was pencil drawing, each one present being required to draw a picture of some one in the party. The first prize, a handsome vase, was award ed to Miss Lela Gee. and the booby prize, a tooth-pick holder, was given to Miss Reynard. Refreshments were served in picnic style under the trees, the waiters being dressed in Chinese costume. All in all a very merry time was had by all. The editor of this paper is grandpa! again. lie received a telegram from Cody, Wyoming, Sunday evening last that a cherub bad been bom to his tirst born daughter, Mrs. G. A. Phipps, that morning, but the happy father in wir ing in the important event was too excited to say whether bov or girl, hence will have to wait the receipt of a letter to learn whether it is a future president or a future president’s better half. But the best part of the message was that mother and babe were O. K. Just notice our expansive smile over it all. Later- Letter received. It's a boy< and handsome, like it’s grandpa. Grand Island will have a Grand Harvest Jubilee on August 14,15, H, 17 . 18 and 19, inclusive. That city is noted for doing things on a big scale and the proposed jubilee this year promises to be the biggest thing ever held there. The G. W. Parker Amusement Com pany ha§ been secured for a nigh class of entertiinments, There will be ten big shows, three free shows, two first class bands, and in fact amusements galore every day. August 10 has been designated as “Old and Loup City Day,” and Loup City should and un doubtedly will send down a big dele gation on that day. Let there be a big crowd go down to Grand Island and whoop it up for the Loup City Carnival and in return Grand Island will send up a bigger delegation when our Big Carnival Jubilee comes off.
