Butte and CM Work. An interesting lesson was given at the young people's meeting at the Bap tist church last Sunday evening Mrs. J. A. Converse, Leader. We would like to have more of the young people at tend these meetings. All are invited. Services at the Baptist church every Biinday, morning and evening. Rev. F. D. Kennedy, pastor. Sunday school after morning service. B. V. 1*. U. be fore evening service, Prayer meeting every Wednesday evening. Covenant meeting, first Saturday evening in each month. Gene Miller of Washington township, was hi the citv last week receiving sub scriptions tor the union Sunday school of Cole creek for a Christmas enter tainment. Jle savs the people of the town were quite liberal by way of do nations and that arrangements are being made for a Merry Christmas among the little fo ks. Services were held at Methodist, Baptist, and Catholic churches in this city Sunday, The weather being tine, the attendance was good at all of them. Rev. John Madelv of the M. E. church, preached his Christmas sermon last Sunday morning. The sermon was on what is called, by some commenta tors, Simeon's Swan Song and is found In Luke 2, 29-33. llis subject for the evening was: “Acquaintance With God,'" and was en joyed hy a very large congregation. The Epworth'League lesson was in deed well handled by Mrs. E. G. Taylor and those who did not attend missed a treat. Everybody is invited toattend these services. They open 6:;50 p. m. E A. Brown, 1st Vice President of the Epworth League, w as distributing some line topic cards Sunday. These cards have the lesson topics for the next six months, the different depart ments of the League, the pledge, the League benediction and the Epworth Emblem. Have you one of these cards? E.Sunday school has made a good grow th the past year and although the house is crowded somewhat, loom will be made for all who w ish to attend. Some talk of an addition lias been on foot anyway, so send your children or better still, go yourself and take them with you. You will be bettered by doing so. The Epworth League choir had two new members Sunday evening. Niel Hover was singing tenor with them and Archie Zimmerman, bass. Services will be held at the German Evangelical church next Sunday at 11:00 o’clock a. m. German Evangelical Sunday school next Sunday at 10:00 o'clock a. m. Mrs. James Landers of Arcadia, was in the city last Friday visiting friends. August Itieman made us a pleasant call Saturday morning. Ernie Milburn of Arcadia was a Loup City visitor Saturday. J. L. Mci.ain of Broken Bow was in our city Thursday of last week. John C/.aplewski has a line new gasoline lamp in his grocery store. Quite a large crowd of young folks was out skating again last triday. G. II. Morgan has added his name to our subscription list since our last issue. Allie Baillie made the Morthwest ern office a pleasant call last Saturday w hile in town. A. B. Ilansen went to Dannebrog yesterday and Mr. Hansen started this morning. They go to spend Christmas with relatives. (). Benshotei's delivery wagon was tipped over last Thursday while de livering goods in the northeast part of town. Miss Moon, the young lady that was visiting at John Leininger’s last week was from Lee Park instead of Sarjent as was stated in our last issue. Mr. and Mrs. D. <’ Leach and chil dren started overland for Oakdale, Neb., Tuesday to spend Christmas and New Years at the home of Mr. Leach's father. Samuel Ilulbert who has been sick for several days was able to be out last Saturday for the first time since he was taken down. Mr. Ilulbert has been very sick. J. vv. F. Jaeschka of ltockville town ship is building a very large barn, 70 feet long and 50 feet wide. The bon is said to be a first class building in every respect. Mrs. C. C. Outhouse has improved in health so much that she has left, the hospital at Grand Island and is staying with her sister, Mrs. Nan Hilsabeck at Thayer, Neb., during the holidays. Miss Aimee Whitman, teacher of the Rockville school, district No. 8, was up to Loup City last Saturday. She made this office a friendly call to see about getting some printing done for the district. Cris. and Henry Johansen were at work last Friday putting in a line of tiling on the east side of the west river bridge. The overflow from the mill race made a very large cut through the road ami it was necessary to put tiling in to turnish an outlet. Arthur Inks says that we made a mistake last week when we stated that he lost two teeth as a result of the col lision on the ice which occurred a week ago Sunday. He says that he did not loose any teeth and only one of them was loosened. Arthur must lie afraid that some “one” will think that he has false teeth. C. L. Drake, our former hotel land lord drove over from Litchfield last Friday. He is on his return trip from the northwest to Concordia, Kansas and stopped over in the city to look af ter some liuisuess and renew old ac quaintances. He is looking well and says that Mrs Drake's health is good also. Mr. Drake left for Ooncorda Wednesday morning, Conan Doyle’s Summer Plans. Among the notable cottagers at Montauk Point, L. 1., this summer will be Sir A. Conan Doyle, the fa mous author who created ‘‘Sherlock Holmes.” Dr. Doyle has rented the Third house, where he contemplates securing that quiet and seclusion so essential to successful literary pro duction. The season will be occupied in writing a new detective story. Out of Jobs. Moses who was up here last week working on the Nebraska Tele phone company’s lines, returned to his home at St. Paul last Thursday. “Doc” Ernry who has been in Kear ney with bis parents for the past six months, was shaking hands with his many friends in this city Friday. Parsten Truelsen and .J. I. Depew have received a new cast of their tire setter and have it in perfect running order. It weighs a little over three hundred pounds and may he seen at the Depew blacksmith shop The machine is very easy to operate and does the work quickly and leaves tlie wheel in a perfect condition. It is not necessary to take tlie tire off the wheel; simplv set the rim of the wheel in the machine and by working a lever the tire is crimped so that it is made tight and in a short time the tire is set and ready for use. With this machine in use a m in can drive up to a black smith shop and get all four of the tires to lii-s wagon or buggy set and he ready to go home in less th m thirty minutes. The machine is a daisy and is rightly named the “E. Z.” tire setter, as a boy of fifteen can operate it with ease. G H Morgan Returns. It seems tunny that when a man gets away from Loup City he is lost until lie returns and so I have decided to move back to Loup City and open up a first-class jewelry store and a watch, clock and jewelry repair shop.
