Lew Williams of Ashton township Sundayed in Loup City. Albert Dickerson, of Harrison township was in town Thursday. The price of hogs has completely knocked the wind out of the pop •ditors. W. S. Owens has just recieved a fine line of summer lap dusters, pret ty designs. E Holcomb's new residence is be ing steadily built up. He has a pret ty location. If you need a hay rake you should call on L G Fisher, at the North western office. There is more improvement going on in Loup City than has been for several years past. Mrs. "Alex Taylor left Tuesday for St Michael, where she goes to be at the bed side of her sick brother. Mr. J M Deeper, and wife left for the east yesterday morning. He has been employed at the Roand Front barn. Geo. Truelsen was taking advan tage of the high prices in the hog market last Tuesday. lie brought in several nice porkers. Wm, Rowe and hie eon Charley have the contract to make the im provements on the business block of Charles Gasteyer. W A Mills of Ohio and represent ing Edward Thompson and Company, law publishers, was a pleasant caller yesterday morning. Anton Kwiatkowski, representing the east side of the county on the board of sapervisors was on hand Monday to attend the board of equ alization. The county board is in session as a board of equalization. As usual the adjustment of taxes is a big job, but all members took to the task with a will. D II Richardson, supervisor of Elm township was on deck Monday morning looking after the interest of his supervisor district and the county in general. Harry Polsen, of Grand Island is clerking in Gasteyer’s store. He is a pleasant young man and those who visit the store will be promptly waited on. James Conger wishes us to say that he will not make any more con tracts for ice by the season out will fill all orders and make prompt de livery by the hundred. James Rentfrow was in town last Monday. Mr. Rentfrow says that he has a fine field of Alfalfa which he sowed this year and it is now ready for the first cutting. A Wall, H Smelscr, E Mann, W T Owen and Dr. Paimer, it is reported embarked for Crawford Monday, where they go as delegates to the Congressional convention for the big sixth. L J Bechthold, the section boss on the Loup City division of the U. P. railroad informs us that the company has now laid their new steel rail track this side of Rockville and will probably get to Loup City this week. A daughter of Mike Palu residing in Oak creek tognshipgot bea hand so badly crashed in a feed grinder last Saturday that Ampatation was necessary. Robert Mathew returned from Lincoln Saturday evening. Trunks, valises, shawl straps, and atchel handles, kept at W. S. Owen's shamess store. A L Baillie was down from Wash ington township last Friday after machine repairs. A Shull and wife, of Washington township were down to the county seat Friday. Mrs. John Fisher and daughters, returned from their visit at St Paul Monday evening. Otto Becbthold now in the employ of the U P R R Co., visited with his parents Satuaday. Geo. Peteri,on sold two loads of hogs on the Loup City market for 10.75 cts. per hundred. No. 52 passinger train, B. and M, going east now leaves Loup City at 7:40 A. M. instead'of 8:05. Chairman Dietrichs, of the county boaul of supervisors is presiding ; over that body this week. 8 S Hover is having his fine house which he purchased of A 1* Culley decorated with a new coat of paist. Peter Thode, supervisor from Lo gan and Washington townships dis trict is doing official duty this week. John Roberts, of Scott township was attending the board of super visors in his oificial capacity this week. J C Fletcher was up from Boelus last Tuesday and brought a fine lot of strawberries for the Loup City market. There will be a Forth of July cel ebration at Ashton this year. Knut zen's park is in fine shape and a good time is anticipated. When you want a good carriage or wagon grease, go to W. S. Owen’s harness store and get it. Every box guaranteed as represented. Geo W Hunter and J H Travis, have both had their lawns barbered this week, which improves their ap pearance very materially. All are cordially invited to attend the regular preaching services at the Baprist church next Sunday morn ing and evening at the usual hours. The family of G FI Oibson was all more or less poisoned last Friday by eating canned salmon. Mrs. Gib son and the two daughters were very sick, but at this writing are able to be up again. S F Reynolds favored this office with a link of bologna Friday. We did not learn whether or not it was his first consignment of the moving picture manufacture, but it was goodie al-e-gamie. Wm. Jakob, supervisor from Bris tol and Hazard is in attendance at the county board meeting this week. Mr. Jakob has 240 acres of winter wheat that is looking fine. He ex pects to commence harvest in about three weeks. The Mystic Legion team is train ing for the Forth of July contest. They have a team of sixteen and it is thought from the attention they are giving to drill practice, that they are likely to carry off the prize. The members of the Baptist church have made arrangements with Rev. Weyand.of Bellwoed.but lately of the Grand Iiland Baptist College, to preach at this place dur ing the summer months. He will reside here during the engagement. We, the editor have been right in the midst of a strawberry harvest this week. So far we have harvest ed about 45 gallons and market ed a moe lot of them at 15 cents per quart. A goodly portion of them have been disposed of by home con sumption. Marmiom lodge, K. ofP. entertain ed their ladies at Castle Hall Wed nesday evening. A mcst entertain ing program was rendered. The original story by Mrs. Mathew and the recitation by Miss. AdaMinshull, were highly appreciated by all. The music consisted of solos by Miss. Sadie Pedler and Neva IIotcLkins and a duet by Smith and Mellor. Refreshments were served and the evening closed with games and 'dancing. Flaming posters are out announc ing the Grand Forth of July celebra tion to take place at J^onp City. Read them and then come here to celebrate. The large Rochester lamps used iD the M. E. Mrs. Gasteyer is having some very j substantial improvements done to her warehouse. She is building a plank platform along the west side 1 of it some eight feet wide and Is also arranging shelving on the inside. At the south west corner of the main building a cistern is being built and other substantial improvements are being made. In a few weeks more time she expects to have the general store department mere conveniently arranged and when completed she will be ready for the large fall trade that is bound to follow the big crop and good prices. District court was to have conven ed here next Monday and although Judge Sullivan had informid some of our local attorneys that it would be indefiuately postponed, be nad failed to give the county clerk offi cial notice. With this understanding county clerk Gibson called up Judge Sullivan, at Lexington, Wednesday morning by telephone and in doe time received official orders to re I cord an adjournment. No date is yet fixed, but it is thought that it will go over to the next regular term. There is now about thirty-six eases on the docket. All civil cases. We arc in receipt of an announce ment and folder from Mias Louise M. Roaseter, of Chicago, and sister of Mrs. C. J. Odendahl, stating that 1 she will, assisted by Chilena Cowell, give an entertainment at the opera ' house in Loup City on June 2Htb. j Miss. Rosseter has devoted five years ! study and careful training in the American Conservatory of Music, Chicago, and i9 a graduate and a gold medalist of the class of 1901. She is very highly spoken of by the press as a pianist of remarkable ability and will soon make an exten sive tour of the middle west, and will appwar in many of the prominent towns of Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota. She was born and raised in Loup City and no doubt will be greeted with a large audience here Remember the date, June 2S, 1902. The Ladies Aid Society have plan ned to have a social at the home of Mrs. W O Brown ou Tuesday eten ing. All who wish to go will meet at the St Elmo hotel at 8:00 o'clock, where conveyances will be in waiting to accommodate all who wish to go. A good time is in store for all who attend.
