Building mid Loan Aftpociatlon.
LINCOLN, Dec. 10— Dr. P. L. Hall,
secretary of the State Banking Board,
has completed his report of the Ne
braska building and loan associations.
The appended summary, taken from
the report, shows in tabular frjrm the
remarkable growth of this class of
institutions, it takes the associations
from the first year that authentic re
ports were made down to the present
year, which period includes 1K92, re
membered'for its expanded credits and
wild speculations, and embraces i.*e
years 1893, 1894 and 1895, which were
marked by panic, drouth and destruc
tion of values, and the years 1896 to
19t)0, inclusive, which have been years
of reaction and restoration of values.
The summary follows:

In commenting upon this summary
Dr. Hall said that it was the best evi
dence that could be found which
would show how well the building and
loan associations of the state stood tne
strain of disastrous commercial condi
tions and how certainly they are mak
ing safe, conservative basis for future
growth and strength.
WtftAliiriiftnn County Bond Cane.
BLAIR. Neb.. Dec. 10.—1The boaru
of supervisors held a special meeting
to take action concerning the S. C. &
P. bonds against Washington county.
Many petitions were on file, many
asking that the county compromise
and settle for the bonds, while others
asked to appeal. After much discus
sion a motion was carried to appeal
the case from the decision rendered
last week in Omaha. This bond ques
tlon has been before the people a long
time and the general opinion is that
it should be settled in some way.
