The court room wasnealiv decorated with the national colors, a large W made of stars and stripes ap peared on the wall just back of the speakers. Tlie meeting was called to order Tfc J. Simmons and the exercises o'lenei! by prayer by Rev. W. 0. Glasner. It was impossible for Hon. W. W. Wood'to lie here and the first speaker introduced was Hon. T. F. Powers. For almut three-quarters of an hour Ma inr Powers entertained the audience with compari sons of what had occurred under republi can and democratic rule as witnessed by himself and in showing up the record or 'ongressman Kern and the inconsistency thereof. At the close of his remarks Hon. James Whitehead was introduced and was greeted with a heart v round of .pplnuse. Mr. Whitehead was nearlv worn out, having lost about four night's sleep during the week previous, but he gave the people an hour's talk which demonstrated that he is a man of ability and knows what he is talking about. There was none of the braggadacial spirit, in his manner or words and his state ments were backed up by the records. His attention was called to an article re cently published in the 'Crawford Bomn- miKj, asking him certain ouestions con erning his acts while in the legislature in 1HH and he proved by the records that (he writer of the article did not know what he was writing about, and that his premises were false. He made 110 prom ises as to what he should do in the event of his election, but he told of some things would not do. He was freuuentlv ipplnuded and he made manv friends lioth for himself and his narty. His personal appearance and pleasant address is much in his favor as they indicate the true manhood which is so strongly char acteristic of him. inn uns: nn will ni'iut yon TlIK skm KKKI.V JOI'KNAI. fro - tj J,,,,, IsiH, lor one hollar.
