FROM OHIO.
There is one thing about our mail order business
which can be said by very few houses in this country;
we never lose a customer who has once patronized us
through the mails. Our customers sometimes move
and get scattered and change about from one part of
the country to another, but they never forget us be
cause they never find a place where they can match
our prices and they never meet anybody who has any
thing but good to say about us and our goods. The
following letter from Ohio is only one. We have
hundreds from every state in the union that say prac
t tically the same thing:

of being suited as you have never yet failed to treat

and expect to wear them as long as I wear clothes as I
have never found any tc approach them for the price.

The republican complain that the

True, but the state assessment has
been greatly decreased, so in order to
keep up the standard of ous schools
the levy must be higher, for we want
the same amount of money. Let ev

while the pinching to pay taxes is
only for a year or two. Pinch every

IlAVAKA, 8ept. 15. The presence ot
BobertT. I'orter, who is in Havana on
a special commission from the United
States government to study the econ
omy and financial aspects of the sit
uation, is regarded with suspicion by
the party of free Cuba, as indicating
the establishment of an American
policy of guardianship.
Mr. I'orter is preparing a revision of
the Cuban tariff, which will probably
be protective of Cuban industries, and
is acquainting himself with every de
tail of local taxation. In this work he
is assisted by a capable staff. For the
present his efforts are only prelimi
nary, as, until after the definite settle
ment of peace, it will be impossible to
stablisb the new regime.
But his efforts and inquiries taken
together with the announcement that
the American troops will be sent later
to occupy the Island which had
hitherto been doubted by many have
had the effect of provoking protests
irons the more rapid Cubans, who are
holding meetings and adopting resolu
tions against "encroachments upon
our rights as citizens of a free and in
dependent republic of Cuba, by the es
tablishment of an American protecto
rate." Two Roe II I in tor lllvoroe.
