Besonders beniertenomerth ist, daß dir Gesell schaft einen Versuch machte, von der Pullmangesellschast etwas über deren Erfahrungen imHeiz und Lüstungo wesen und besonders izluotiinst dar-— til-er zu erlangen, ob und wie Verbes serungen angebracht werden können. Die iilnllman Gesellschaft meinte aber sehr selbltzxssrieben, sie bade zur seit teinerlei derartige Vorschläge ans La ger. Nun nahm die Versammlung in Vltlantie lsitu die Sache in die Hand und arbeitete eine Anzahl Vorschläge ano, die den Eisenbahnverwaltungrn des Lande-i unterbreitet werden sol len. Vor allem wird eine indirelte Hei zung und Liistung der Wagen rnip soblen, die in jeder Weise so gere— gelt werden tann, dasz Ueberbeizung sowie Zug verinieden wird. Die Ein niusvsiuuugm un die frische Lust sollen im« unterenTbeile der Wagen, in den Schlasioagen unter den unte ren Betten, angebracht werden und die Oeffnunaen fiir den Austritt der schlechten Luft oben. lim jedem Jug, auch durch Fenster und Iliiirem zu begegnen, muß die Lustzusubr träfg tiger sein als die tribsuhh die Lust muß also mittels der Zusubr durch die Wagen getrieben werden, statt wie bisher durch das rasche Austreten der Lust, wodurch allein Zug entsteht. Auch sollte die Einrichtung so zu re guliren sein, das-, sie unabhängig von der Geschivindigteii des Zuges wirkt. Und dann sollte der Durchgang der Lust durch die Wagen so eingerichtet werden, dass die Reifenden nicht di lett davon betroffen werden, daß sie vielniehr,gar nicht« davon merten. Die ganze Einrichtung muß also der unserer verbesserten Haus : txt-fidei zungseinrichtung nachgebildet wer den, bei der sa auch im Zimmer selbst teine Spur von Zug zu bemerten ist, indem die eintretende Lust die im Zimmer befindliche langsam nach aus ßen drängt Bet der bisherigen Einrichtung bleibt dem Reisenden bloß die Wahl zwischen Eishaus oder Backosenhiye, zwischen Schwiile oder heftigem Zug. Beides ist mindestens äußerst unge miithlich, tann aber auch geradezu schädlich aus die Gesundheit wirken. Wenn die angeführten Vorschläge von tsen Eisenbahnverwattungen angenom men würden, dann wäre das Reisen auf der Eisenbahn in der That ein Vergnügen, und der Gewinn davon täcne am Ende auch den Bahnverwals tnngen zu Gute —---·--s-s-— Otn cui-r des Miste-. Es eignen fich dazu traur mes Stroh nnd Bittenreifig, das man ungefähr eine Spanne lang hacki. Das Stroh soll ohne Aehren fein, da törnerhaltende Aehren leicht Mäuse anloäen. Jn manchen Gegenden, in denen der Weidegang sonft nicht üblich ift, hat man es neuerdings und zwar mit gu tem Erfolg möglich gemacht, wenig-« iftens die Kälber auf die Weide zu ;kfchicken. Bei einein vergleichenden I Versuch wurden 8 Kälber fiir den .Soinmer ganz in den Stall geftellt, während 9 Kälber täglich in eine Kop pel in der Nähe des Stalles getrieben wurden. Der Graswuchs der Rappel » war als Weide nicht genügend, wohl »aber ausreichend, nin jede Staubents » wickelung zu verhindern. Die Kälber : der zweiten Abheilung wurden Mor gens zwifchen 6 und ·«« Uhr in die Stop pel hinausgelaffen, wo fie bis Abends gegen 7 bis 8 Uhr verblieben, so daß fie alfo hier ungefähr lsl Stunden täglich im Freien waren. Futter fo wohl wie Tränte wurden nach dein Lebendgewicht jedes einzelnen Thieres bemessen. Beide Abtheilungen der « Kälber wurden tm übrigen ganz gleich lgesiittert. Bei den wöchentlich aus geführten Wägungen zeigten sich aber sehr bedeutende Unterschiede. Die im Stall gehaltenen Kälber litten ost an Appetitlotigteit, Verdauungsstörungen u· a. m. Die nach Beendigung des Versuchs in einer Tabelle mitgetheilten Zahlen zeigen deutlich, einen wie günstigen Einfluß der Aufenthalt in frischer Luft gehabt hat, die im Stall gehaltenen Thiere nahmen durch schnittlich etwa 139 Pfund im Monat zu, die in der Koppel aber etwa 58 Pfund, wobei das ganze Aussehen der letzteren ein viel kräftigeres nnd ge siinderes war. Besser noch als' diese, wenig Wahrung bietende Kopbel ist natiirlich ein richtiger Weidegang des Jungviehg. Vielfach gewöhnt man die Kälber schon iin Alter von drei bis vier Wochen langsam an die Be wegung im Freien, aber nicht nur bei schönem Wetter, sondern auch wenn es talt oder naß ist; natürlich pflegt man sie bei regnerischeni Wetter nicht lange im Freien zu lassen. Dadurch werden die Athmungsorgane sehr gut entwickelt, die Haut gewöhnt sich an Kälte und Nässe und das ganze Thier wird widerstandsfähigen Anfangs wird man die Kälber tiir«zere, später längere Zeit im Freien laisen. Sind sie aus diese Weise abnehärtei und haben sie sich ans Freie gewohnt, so lann man sie schon knii dem vierten Monat auf die Weide geben.
