A movement is on foot to secure the
commutation of the sentence of Mur
derer Harry Hill to that of. im
prisonment for life. lawyer Matt
Gering, counsel for Hill, has the
matter in hand and it is re
ported that be is now canvassing
among the jury, in the hope of secur
ing their signatures to a petition to
the governor asking for the commu
tation. One of the jurors, J no. T.
Nims, says he was approached and
requested to sign, but flatly refused.
It is thought, howevei, that there are
one or two of the jurors who will sign
at any rate. Whether or not Mr. Ger
ing is successful in his mission, he pro
poses to spare no fair means to pre
vent Hill's execution on March 1,1895,
as fixed by the supreme court of the
state.

The ferry license of J. W. Thomas
across the Platte river, was extended
for one year from date.

Notice of the death of Mr. Dutton,
Chairman of the board, being received

the county clerk, county treasurer and

Upon receipt of the above notice the
appointive board consisting of the
county judge, county treasurer and
county clerk, decided to meet on Dec.
7, 1S94, to fill the vacancy thus oc
casioned. Dec. 7 The appointive board con
sisting of the above named officials,
met according to agreement and pro
ceeded to ballot for a commissioner to
till the vacancy before mentioned. One
hundred and twenty-eight ballots were
taken without making any choice,
when the said board adjourned to
meet on Dec. 8th, 1S94.

Resignation of F. F. Carnes as Con

The cost bill State of Nebraska vs
Phil Green allowed Nov. 9, 1894, was
re-examined and defendants witnesses
allowed $4 each as mileage to correct
error.
In the claim of II. D. Barr, for fees
in various misdemeanor cases the
