TO PAY TRUCKER WAGES
Omaha. Jjmes M. Young, district
army engineer stationed here, said
following a conference n Siis office
that trucking of stone from Tekamah
to the $200,000 river job on the De
catur bend would be resumed im
mediately. The Tobin Quarries, Ne
hawka, sub-contractors, will pay the
truckers' code hauling charges, pend
ing adjustment by the NRA truckers
code authority, the Kansas City
Bridge company, holders of the gen
eral contract, and the sub-contractor.
The work was halted Saturday
pending the conference.
"A misunderstanding was largely
to blanvc. Our office ruled at first
that the job came under the quarry
code. On that understanding the
Tobin firm has been paying truck
ers on the quarry code. It now ap
pears that the truckers code ap
plies," Captain Young said. NRA of
ficials who attended the meeting in
dicated they would insist the truck
er's be paid the full code price for
all stone hauled since the job open
ed a month ago.

State Relief
Heads Offer
Resignations
Members Would Permit Governor
Elect Roy Cochran Free Hand
in Administering Work.
All members of the state relief
committee at Lincoln Monday resign
ed to leave Governor-Elect R. L.
Cochran free to name his own com
mittee when he takes office the first
week in January.
The resignations are to be effec
tive January 3.
Cochran met with the committee
Monday at its own invitation. The
committee was appointed by Gover
nor Charles W. Bryan at the incep
tion of the FERA program, members
serving without pay.
Those who resigned are: State
Tax Commissioner W. H. Smith,
Seward; A. F. Buechler, Grand Is
land; Gene Huse, Norfolk; Frank D.
Throop, Lincoln; Dr. C. P. Fall,
Beatrice, and Dr. Francis W. Heagey,
Omaha.
To Meet Once More.
Cochran made no statement. Be
fore going into the meeting Cochran
said he was bringing no suggestions
and expected only to familiarize him
self with the problems involved.
The committee will hold one more
meeting before its reorganization,
probably late in December or in the
first few days of January.
Earlier in the day representatives
of organized labor, charging numer
ous instances of nepotism, asked the
committee to furnish it with copies
of the pay roll for the state organ
ization and for each county relief or
ganization. Probe Request Hinted.
Fred Eissler, representing the
State Federation of Labor, said labor
is prepared to demand an investiga
tion of the relief setup in Nebraska,
unless the committee furnishes the
pay roll information and halts the
practice of hiring more than one
member of a family for relief work.
Eissler was accompanied by repre
sentatives of the Lincoln Central La
bor union. They charged numerous
instances where two or more mem
bers of a family are holding jobs in
the state relief organization, in the
Lancaster county organization and in
other counties.
CORN OF GOOD QUALITY
Chicago. Corn exhibited at the
international grain and hay show
this year equals that of last year,
three of the judges, who have spent
hours digging kernels out of ears,
said.
"The drouth affected the number
of entries rather than the quality,"
R. D. Lewis of Columus, O., a mem
ber of the Ohio State university fac
ulty, said. "The best of the entries
this year is as good as the best last
year, but the general average may
not be as high."
D. L. Gross of Lincoln, Neb., an
other judge, said the entries were
"remarkable when one considers the
conditions which prevailed in some
sections of the country."
